I played The Maw when it came out in 2009. It is still downloadable on Xbox Series X|S and I did so to see if I had left any achievements on the table. I did one but it is a very tricky and annoying chievo that I have little interest in getting now - details to ensue. Anyway, this is a long favorite Twisted Pixel game of mine, a sequel of which I would dearly love to see, as unlikely as it probably is. Check it out.

Howlongtobeat.com says 3 hours for the main story. I certainly did all that and all the DLC as well when it came out. My friend and I still quote Frank, The Maw's handler, calling the Maw when he gets out of sight. The game did very well on Xbox Live Arcade at the time, so it mystifies me why Twisted Pixel never revisited this with a sequel.

The Maw creature is a bit like Kirby in that it eats everything sometimes being changed by it, like being able to breathe fire from eating lava rocks. Frank has an electric leash that can be used to direct Maw, throw stuff, and grapple. You use these abilities to escape from the Galactic Bounty Hunters and navigate the planet you've crash-landed on. Overall the Maw just gets bigger and bigger and there is a surprise, and very funny, ending to the game. DLC levels add some more gameplay but ever since I finished it, I wanted more.

I completed all the achievements but one. This asks you to feed the Maw at six different mealtimes of the real hours of the day. Basically, you have to play the game at Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Dunch, Dinner, and Late Night Feast. They don't tell you the exact times for these or what you've completed so I just guessed. I think I must've always missed the breakfast because, at the time, I was working a 2nd shift job and never got up before 10 am or so. I should really try it one more time since I get up at 7 am now.

It was Twisted Pixel Games' first game. Subsequently, they did very good games like 'Splosion Man, Ms 'Splosion Man, Comic Jumper, and Gunstringer. The ones after it lost my attention like Lococycle and now they are independent again and working on Oculus Rift. I want to see more games from them like The Maw.

I loved Twisted Pixel's games back in the 360 days.  I got to review pretty much all of them.  They were semi-local (Austin, TX), so I would meet them every year at PAX and had good contacts with them.  When they used live action video in games like Comic Jumper and LocoCycle, I even recognized some of the places they filmed!  I loved the humor in those games.  Really miss them.

That's cool you had such close contact with them. I'm still waiting for a new game from them I can get into.
