Sometimes a Xbox Gold free game is one I've never heard of. I usually give it a shot and most of the time I see something that is pretty decent. The Mace Griffon game a while back was one of those. Hydrophobia very recently was another. Take a look.

It was released digitally on Xbox 360 in 2010 and PS3 in 2011 and added to Games with Gold this month.

You are inside a gigantic ship at sea being attacked by terrorists and have to fight them off as well as solve puzzles along the way. Water is a huge element of the gameplay. It's often pouring into corridors and flooding rooms. It can help or hinder you. Sometimes the water is only waist high and other times you have to swim through it. You pick up weapons along the way but you don't get much ammo, so you have to be strategic.

Howlongtobeat says it takes 3 hours to beat it. I have to confess I didn't finish it. Maybe I was close though. I got really frustrated with the lack of ammo. Also, it seemed the only way to switch weapons was to use the weapon wheel, which in situations with a lot of enemies around you is too darn slow, but maybe I missed something in the control layout. I enjoyed it for most of the game's length.

Dark Energy Digital was the UK developer. They did mostly pool and snooker video games. This was their first action-adventure game. Hydrophobia, unfortunately, bankrupted the company due to low sales, but I think that their HydroEngine is pretty impressive and produced an underrated game.

Looks like a stressful game! That stinks that it sounds like the people at the developer finally got to make the game they wanted and it, um, sunk the company.

Yea, they did all those pool games and then the one adventure game with a cool story they do ruins the company. It was supposed to be a trilogy too. That's the chances you take in game development, I guess.
