Your dedication to getting that random game is laudable! The Smash Bros games are great fighting games for people who don't like fighting games. My kids played sooooo much of that board game mode. It's a shame they didn't have something like that in Ultimate.
Mar 10, Mario? Really? haha

I guess I celebrated Mario in a way by playing my randomly sampled game, Super Smash Bros. on Wii-U. I randomly rolled the Wii-U and the number 3. The game was number 3 on Metacritic's list of best Wii-U games.
It was fun to pull out the Wii-U again, hook it up, and look through the soon-to-be empty store. Lots of cool stuff there I was tempted to buy, but not right away. I'm trying to limit myself to my randomly chosen game of the day, and today it was Super Smash Bros. It was $60 in the digital store though but only $20 at a nearby Gamestop.
I had to run out and get a copy of the game at Gamestop. Luckily I had a lot of rewards points saved up and paid for it that way - $20 worth - so basically free. The Gamestop app is really easy to use to redeem rewards points, I found.
I don't generally enjoy fighting games, they kind of bore me, but there are so many cool modes in Super Smash Bros for the Wii-U, that I found myself playing all of them. There's a board game mode, a puzzle mode like Angry Birds, online spectator mode where you can bet on live matches, and a host of ways to play the main game across all the many locations and with a large number of different characters. I used King Dedede mostly, but sometimes Zero Suit Samus. Of course, in the board game mode, you end up using whatever character you pick up along the way, so I was dabbling with many other characters.
I really wanted to hook up a second controller so my friend could play too (there was no one online for me to play). I wanted to use my Gamecube controller but I needed an adapter. I could've used my Wii remote or the Wii classical controller, but I had left them at home. So I played solo the whole time against AI.
The battles are surprisingly fun. Each character has interesting special moves. Each level also does some different things like flip the screen or have moving platforms that make it really frantic and fun. I tried a variety of levels with themes from many different games. Really cool. I also wanted to use my amiibos, but I didn't have them with me today. Next week I'll try them out.
I also played some Xbox Series S. I tried out Wasteland 2 for a monthly Game Pass reward. It's very cool but I got party wiped on my second turn-based battle. I tried to run with my last guy but it wouldn't let me leave the zone. Maybe I missed something but that seemed unfair. If you know you're overmatched, you should have the opportunity to flee. I did get a bit of a chill at the opening cutscene as a nuke exploded to make the world into a wasteland. I'm afraid in the real world, that nuke would leave no one left to fight these turn-based battles and scavenge for supplies.
I ended the day with a lot of Gems of War. I substituted a new character for my support roll character placed last in my order. It's a giant legendary dragon that certainly does more than just support the other characters. It enabled me to win several key battles I'd lost with my old team. I think I'm level 53 or something now. My friend is almost at level 100 though.
Have a good week. Hope there's another one. I want to play my next rando game, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
