You are crossing the wide expanse of Lemurian grasslands to reach the mystical gardens of Ur where the crystal goblet Crystofel is guarded by the Lamia of the Fountains of Lamneth.

The party, on the first night, decides to play a game. Half-dwarf thief/mage Snaggletooth Grizzlebeard reaches into the Bag of Infinite Amusement and pulls out. . . (DM rolls dice behind a screen using the following tables):

Roll 1-34 (use random.org's app but roll 2d20 just for sound effect):

7. Arcade
8. NES
9. Sega Master System
10. GameBoy

34. PS5

If result is 1-15, 17 (I don't know yet but will add in lists later)

If result is 16 go to Gamesradar.com for a top 25. Roll 1d20+1d6, but really, use the app.

If result is 18-34 go to Metacritic.com for a top 100 and roll 5d20, but use the app, for reals.

The DM rolls a 30, Wii-U, and then a 42 on Metacritic to get Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Out pops the console and game and Human-Orc Ranger/Mage Plodnar Gigglespittle plugs the system into his Teslacroptic Generator. The party members gather 'round the screen, backlit by the campfire, and play the game.

(DM rolls again, clandestinely)

Two hours later 6 Flaming Gila Monsters surprise the party and even though they are victorious, Snaggletooth Grizzlebeard is mortally wounded. Luckily, Hobgoblin-Elf Acrobat/Cleric Sniffles Furrytail rolls a 20 in the attempt to revive him and succeeds to the extent that Grizzlebeard is now a level 80 Frost Giant. The way forward should be smooth sailing the team thinks as they tuck in for the night in Grizzlebeard's whiskers.

Oh boy, this is why I don't play D&D games.

I love DnD. I never made a character any weirder than a Paladin or Fighter/Mage though.
