I think LEGO Batman 2 was one of the first LEGO games to have actual voices. The overworld was fun once you unlocked a flying character. There is a new LEGO game coming out soon: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. I usually get to review pretty much every LEGO game out there, but I might not be able to review that one.
Beaten, Not Done: Lego Batman 2

Both my friend and I beat the main story in Lego Batman 2 this week but there is plenty left to explore in this, one of the first if not the first, open-world Lego game.
This open-world seemed a bit confusing at first but I got through the story by not wandering and following the purple stud trail through the city of Gotham. Trying to navigate the map just got me confused.
You basically follow Joker and defeat him and his pal's (name forget) superweapon in each crooked caper until you capture them both. You mainly use Batman and Robin but in later levels other characters are added like Superman, Wonderwoman and Green Lantern. You beat up baddies, figure out puzzles, break everything for studs, and perform some light platforming challenges. I luckily never got stuck like I did in Lego Harry Potter.
Something funny stuck with me in the story. Robin is portrayed as a superfan of Superman and Batman is, of course, not a fan. Batman tells Robin that he's hidden the Kryptonite around Gotham in case Superman ever becomes evil. Robin says, "You really don't trust anyone, do you?". I thought that was funny. I've been thinking about that all week.
I'm really excited by the continued free play. I chose a flying character like Superman and cruised Gotham by air to unlock all the command terminals and capture additional villains. I tried to use the map with markers to do this but it got confusing again so I just used the glowing pillars of light visible around the city to guide me to the next locked terminal. I see many more hours of gameplay as I attempt to find all the golden bricks.
I am, however, looking ahead to the next Lego game in my list of complete Lego games. Next is Lego Lord of the Rings, however, this game is currently delisted on Xbox because the license expired. Apparently, this happened with Lego The Hobbit as well but it returned, so maybe Lego LotRs will too. I'm kicking myself now for not picking it up when I saw it on sales some months ago.
To avoid this mistake in the future, I bought the three-pack of Lego Marvel Superheroes games on sale. It has Lego Marvel Superheroes 1 and 2 and Lego Marvel Avengers. Lego Marvel Superheroes 1 is the game that chronologically comes just after Lego Lord of the Rings. I may skip ahead or I may hunt down an Xbox 360 physical copy before playing Superheroes. Weird thing is, Gamestops around me only have the PS3 version of this game. Very strange.
