I finally set up my new OLED Switch. Boy this thing is small. It's even a third of the size of my Xbox Series S, which seemed small to me for an Xbox console. The Switch has such a minimalist design. Those joycons are so small. I couldn't figure out how everything plugged into the holder until I popped the little piece of plastic off the side to expose the jacks for the HDMI and power cord. This is such a Japanese design. There is no waste of space. It all fits together like a work of origami.
Well, I got the thing working pretty quickly. There wasn't a quick start guide inside the box but it was written on the side. I got a year of online for $20. I didn't get the expansion yet but I'm tempted with the offering of N64 and Genesis games. I'll explore the NES and SNES offerings first, I think.
I downloaded a bunch of free games and demos. I played some of the Pac-Man free game. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to play it. Then I played some Tetris 99. Neat idea. I played it for a little while. Then I played the demo for the recent Kirby game I forget the name of. Very cool. Loved absorbing a traffic cone and stomping on heads with it. Also becoming a vending machine and shooting cans all over the place.
Then I played the demo for Triangle Tactics (Strategy? I forget which now). Man, there is a lot of dialog after the first battle. It just went on and on. I finally got to a second battle but time was up for the day and I had to suspend it. Like the game though. Will return to it I think.
I have more demos, a library borrowed copy of Zelda Skyward Sword, and my only owned game, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle to play next time.
I have to say, despite the tiny size of the joycons, they work incredibly well, and I had no problem with them at all. Xbox's controllers seem like for giants by comparison.
Oh, where the heck do I insert the game cartridge in this thing? Ha ha.
