KABONG!

I got called into work on Thursday, so it was just a half-day gaming with my buddy Mark. Tues/Thurs is my "normal weekend" right now.

Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga [Switch]: I rented this from the library. It disappointed me a bit as I was imagining flying through space in a Y-Wing going from planet to planet. It doesn't seem like there is an open world portion to this game, but I only played through several levels of the first movie. In the beginning, the game presents you with a menu wheel of all the movies that you can choose from. Once you are in one, you have another menu which shows other planets you can go to for, I guess, side missions. This was not what I wanted. But, the game looks pretty good and the action is a little more refined and fast paced then before. I still don't feel comfortable with the Switch controllers, although, I think I'll mount them on the holder next time to make them feel more like a standard controler. There doesn't seem to be any motion related gesture controls in the game early on. So, I stopped after a few levels. I wanted to try it out on Switch, but I really want to play it on Xbox where I can get achievements sometime later.

Unsighted [Xbox Series S]: Played for Game Pass rewards. This is a top-down view (isometric?) roguelike action game with pixelated, colorful graphics. You are put in a laboratory where something has gone terribly wrong. I set the game to multiplayer, so the second character with me could be inhabited by a real player. None appeared, so it was just AI. I fought some robots and gathered a few resources from the strange plants growing in the lab. Then a boss robot wrecked me repeatedly and I quit. I think I was supposed to flee the lab but I couldn't find the exit. Well, whatever. I enjoyed it a bit.

Minecraft: It dawned on me that to do the remaining achievements, I'd have to definitly know the location of both the Fortress in the Nether and the burried Stronghold in the Overworld. So I took a known seed world from the list and entered creative mode. I found both on the Coastal Village seed world and wrote down the coordinates. Now I can create a survival world with the same seed and know where those places are and not waste time hunting for them. Also, putting the game on Peacefull mode does not disable achievements, and is very usefull for building up resources without being harrased by mobs, an endlessly annoying problem even on Easy. So I'm set up to make some progress on the last few achievements which are going to take a very long time to get.

Weird West: Another isomentric view game, but this time a RPG very similar to Baldur's Gate but in the old West. I played it for Game Pass rewards. It was pretty good. I burried my son, snuck up on bandits and choked them out, shot stuff, and ultimately got shotgunned after shooting a lantern to set a brush fire to take out multiple bandits. They got hurt but were able to run me down. Ah, well. I may return to it sometime.

Gems of War: I worked hard on the adventure tasks which asked me to use different banners, weapons and characters. I'm at 170 stars but need 1000 to complete the achievement. This is going to take some time, but there are other achievements I can go for at the same time.

Next time I'll be trying out Kirby Star Allies. Certainly, next week, there will be new Game Pass Rewards games I'll play and, hopefully, I can finally get to Jurassic Park Evolution 2

What was Mark playing? Glad you asked. Minecraft, where all I heard was endless killin', and Gems of War, where I kept hearing the cries of his enemies defeated by his explosively screen-clearing Gorgon character with the sound, "KABONG!"

Does this Gems of War game have Quick Draw McGraw in it or something?

All the characters/cards say things when battling. It can get kind of repetitive sometimes. I often here Mark's characters saying things, and I can't resist repeating them in silly ways. Perhaps KABONG is just something Mark says when his Gorgon unleashes a spell that clears the screen. The lines blur between our comments and the game's at times. ha ha.

Yeah when I get the LEGO Star Wars games, I'm getting it on PS4 simply because the Switch's JoyCons are crap and I like trophies.

I am so close to picking up another PS4. There's always something I can't play anywhere else on the PS4.
