Bloodborne, Boards and Buys

I read part two of the new Bloodborne Lady of the Lanterns comic, played several board games, bought some stuff at the convention I went to, and played a bunch of stuff I'll probably save for another time because this blog is already going to be longish.

bloodborne

Comics these days give you several covers to choose from on day-one. I chose this one. The creepier the better for a Bloodborne comic. I'm enjoying the story so far. I'm still unsure of the art design. The best part of it is this cover. The contents leave me a bit wanting. I want to be swathed in doom and gloom but instead I'm thinking of medieval woodcut etchings that seem a bit primitive in sophistication to me. Well, I'll carry on with it, see if everyone dies or not. So far it's like 10-1 dead to living.

yahtzee

Played Yahtzee again but this time with the 40th anniversary edition I got at Goodwill. I love this dice tray. It's perfect and much better than the other one I had. You find some good things at Goodwill on occasion.

battleship

I lucked out one day and found the original Battleship design at Goodwill. I don't like the newer versions I saw most of the time with electronc boards or everything on one board. This is the version I played as a kid. It's like two laptops with colored pegs to mark shots. Shown is the result of one playthrough where Mark beat me (he's on the left, me right). I marked all his shots for some reason while he didn't. I'm not sure which is right.

buys

These were the game buys I got at the convention last week. I also got a series 2 Genesis deck. That Disney Infinity 3DS game apparently requires a special power pad to read the figures. I got one on ebay for $7 to try it out. I'm psyched to try out GTA Vice City again sometime in October. I've never really dug into it for very long. I used to have the soundtrack box set though. I love the radio stations in the game.

As for actual gaming. I've been trying to focus on just one game. So it's been a lot of Forza Horizon 5. But I have made small but significant progress in Skylanders GiantsLego Marvel's Super Heroes, Power Wash Simulator, Farm Together and Microsoft's Solitaire Collection. I can't quite get myself to let go of my toys-to-life and all-lego-game projects.

Oh, and October is a new retro theme for me: the 2000s. I got a retro deck set up and a game to play starting Monday. I can't wait for that.

That's neat that you got a PSOne Activision collection.  But the best one is the PS2 Activision Anthology.  That one rivals the Namco Museums on PSOne as far as presentation and quality goes.

Here's something for you:

I used to have that PS2 collection. I'll have to reaquire it, and it's perfect timing too because I'm going to a game store tomorrow.

I'm not hugely interested in the Minecraft Amiibos. I like certain designs over others and Minecraft isn't the best in the visual design department. Gameplay, yes. Design, no.

That Bloodborne comic looks cool.

I like the covers. I wish the story itself was creepier and the art something more.

My wife often finds good stuff at Goodwill and other thrift stores.

I might have had that same Activision collection back in the day. Man, even in the late '90s those games felt so primitive!

Yea, they do. It's like the stone age of video games compared to today. But, I always felt Activision did the best job with the Atari hardware. The games were as simple as they had to be but still visially interesting and generally fun to play.
