Lego Around Xmas

Somehow I got in the mood to play some lego games before and after Xmas. So I streamed Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and then got back to scouring the world of Lego City Undercover.

I discovered that I really can collect space ships in Lego SWSS and fly them around, which was the thing I was most looking forward to doing in this game. It's still sort of limited, but you can do space missions with any collected ship around any planet. There are a lot of ships too, and I delight in repeating their names and trying to remember where they appeared in the movies. With that discovery, I decided to start its download.

LSWSS

Oh hello, Twi-lek. Goin' my way?

While it was downloading I decided to return to Lego City Undercover and continue my attempt to collect everything. The world, with it's three islands connected by bridges, and your ability to climb buildings and glide from building to building, made me think of Crackdown many times. Lego CU isn't as completely free-roam as Crackdown (you can't just climb a building any way you want, you need something there to grapple to or grab) but it's free enough.

When you get a stretch limo, you gotta jump it.

Collectibles can be tricky to find, but you have a scanning device that lets you see places where there are hints and shows the location of gold bricks. Of course, knowing the location is not all you need. sometimes they are high up on a building and you have to figure out how to get up there. The most annoying task to do is painting things. You have to find paint kiosks to change your color and they are sometimes tricky to find and then remember where they were. They will show up on the scanner however, you just need to be somewhat near them. I was often finding a paintable object, then trying to remember where the dispensary was, and then returning to the object. Kind of pain but I'm hoping a red brick might unlock a paint gun with all the colors, whenever I find it.

I'm pretty much locked in to finishing Lego City Undercover and trying to find everything even given some of the driving and platforming quirks. Controls in lego games aren't always perfect, but this game is one of the better ones. so I can put up with it.

You're playing one of the worst LEGO games (Skywalker Saga), as well as one of the best ones (City Undercover).

Saga is kind of weird. The stories of each movie are strangely condensed like they didn't have enough time to make them complete. I enjoyed it so far though. I want to fly the ships when I return to it.

Just finished Lego City Undercover and started Lego Movie.

LEGO City Undercover always sounded really interesting to me, which is surprising because I'm not into open world games and regular LEGO games tend to leave me bored but something about Undercover just looks interesting and fun.

It's modeled on GTA, but I usually reference Crackdown or Just Cause because those are open world games I've played a lot.

I really got into the transit system and helicopters late in the game. You can just jump on a bus and follow it's route, or have a taxi or limo follow your own route. I did that all the time to travel the city, just for fun. You can fast travel via subway whenever you want too.
