Still Lego

Screen shots and goofy video clips from Lego City Undercover, which I am now done with. I said I would take a break from Lego games, but then I dove right into the next chronological Lego game release with Lego The Movie The Video Game.

I got deeply into helicopters in Lego City Undercover. They behave somewhat limited. You can get one at a helipad but you can't just land it anywhere, only in places where there is another helipad. You also can't jump out of one except to enter a vehicle or fall onto a bounce pad. In trying to find secrets at the tops of buildings, I used helicopters to sight them and then find a place to exit them nearby and hunt for a way up. I often had to take a trip back to a helipad to get another copter.

In doing so, I explored the various travel systems in the game. To get to another part of the map, you can take a train and either drive it or fast travel to another station (you can't drive it from a subway station though, only fast travel. boo.). You can take a taxi or limo and have it follow a route you choose (neat!). And you can get on a bus and just take it along its route until you near your destination. There's another way too, and that's to surf on a vehicle. Just don't stand on the driver's head or he/she will stop. Oh, and of course you can pick your own vehicle from those you've unlocked at special build spots all over the map. Once you have the red brick that unlocks "instant vehicles", you can have a copter drop any of them to wherever you are. I love the multiple ways you can get around in this game.

There are also a lot of stunt ramps all over. It's fun to take a new vehicle for a airborne spin.

Jumping a segway is wacky.

How about a wheelchair? Wackier.

I finished almost all the achievements in the game. A few seemed glitched and didn't unlock and a few just seemed so annoying, so I gave up on them. The scanner reveals most of the locations of challenges and hidden objects but not all. I must've combed all three connected islands and the three isolated ones like a blood hound looking for foxes. I could look up walkthroughs, but I like doing it myself. Sometimes they hide things a little too well.

Anyway, I started the next Lego game released, Lego The Movie The Video Game and got a good ten levels into it. It's a more linear experience compared to Lego City, but I'm enjoying it so far.

Happy new year!

The LEGO Movie Videogame is pretty standard LEGO game stuff, but boy that movie it was based on was excellent.  Pixar quality, I'd say.

I just finished it. I saw it had a total of 40 gold bricks to collect. Lego City Undercover had something like 450. I knew right away Lego The Movie would be short and it was. I loved the music and am getting the soundtrack from the library. Mark Mothersby (of Devo fame and many movie soundtracks like Thor Ragnarok) did it. I liked the movie too when it came out.

I put City Undercover down a while ago because it didn't seem as easy to get a Platinum in, but maybe I'll go back and get it some time.

It's a long haul, but enjoyable. Some of the last things to find really require a walkthrough, because, for the life of me, I couldn't figure them out.
