Lego: The Hobbit

Lego: The Hobbit is a 2014 game based on the Peter Jackson films that came out after he did Lord of the Rings. I finished the main storyline and am in the process of hunting down and crafting every darn thing in it. I quite like this post game challenge in Lego games. It's where the real exploration and problem solving come into play.

The game doesn't cover all three Peter Jackson Hobbit movies, however, only the first two. The Battle of the Five Armies was supposed to be DLC, but it never happened. So it's a bit weird to end on the defeat of Smaug knowing there is supposed to be a mammoth battle over the dragon-hoard. But, I enjoyed what the game covered.

I had recently played Lego: The Lord of the Rings and so the map in Lego: The Hobbit looks the same, but everything else about it is different: new levels, collectables, craftables and unlockable characters. Also, getting around is by Eagle this time, which is darn cool.

The only issue I had was trying to remember which Dwarf did what. The game tells you in one place, but on the selection screen you just get their faces, which all look very similar. Is that racist? Ha ha. I guess I just can't tell one beard from another. I started getting it, though, in time. Sorry Dwarves.

I hope to get back to it soon so I can finish and move on to Lego Batman 3, which I bought on a sale on Xbox several months ago. Lego games go on sale a lot, and usually you can get one for $5 digitally, which I do for most of them. But, I'm on a new game project right now, and it doesn't fit into my plan. That's not to say, I can't bend the rules a bit, because at some point, I will.

I continue to marvel at your appetite for Lego games lol but I'm glad you enjoy them.

Lego games do infuriate me at times. There's always some troublesome platforming clumbsiness or other small glitch that just has me wringing my hands in frustration, but I love the search-and-find so much, I keep going.

In general search-and-find or collectathons tend to bore me really fast. That's probably why open world games tend to not excite me.

To each his own. I do get fatigued by the hunt after a while. Some games make it feel endless. I need an end in sight to keep going.

LEGO The Hobbit is one of the few LEGO games that I wasn't able to review and I skipped out on playing it myself as well.  I think I reviewed LEGO Lord of the Rings, but I'm not a fan of the book or movies so I never saw The Hobbit either.

I think I actually enjoyed the animated Hobbit movie from the 70s better.
