Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I funny thing happened on the way to my Switch. A friend I hadn't talked to in years texted me and started a conversation about Animal Crossing. Turns out he'd been playing it during the pandemic. We friended up, I visited his island, and he mine. The whole experience was really cool.

I only had a campsite set up and the museum about to open when my friend texted me. I figured out the online via Dodo Airlines. It's a very cool way to hook up with friends. I really liked going through the turnstiles and viewing the flying sequence on the way.

When I got to my friend's island, my jaw dropped. He had been working on his island for a while and it had everything. Gardens were everywhere. He had his own house, with three stories and a music room where I tried to play all the instruments (they make noise but really can't be played very well). There was a table with a model railway on the main floor, and many other things. He had many buildings in his village. He had rock and flower gardens and fields of crops. There was a lighthouse and a cannon on a dock. NPCs were wandering about. My friend had very specific likes and dislikes of some of them. Clearly he'd been in this world a long time.

I learned a lot of different mechanics while visiting, like how to don a wetsuit to swim and collect fish and other ocean critters. I built a ladder to climb, and a pole to leap over rivers. I bought a bunch of stuff to try out at his store like party noise makers and a bubble blower in addition to upgraded versions of basic tools.

When I visited his museum, the place I'm most interested in, I was floored. He had collected nearly everything you could collect; the fossiles were all found, the fish, and the insects. The only thing he hadn't finished was the art room. I really loved the design of all the exhibits. I wish real museums were laid out like this. I was tempted to read the text for each collectible, but I didn't want to waste my friend's time.

He visited my island where it was mostly still wilderness and dropped a bunch of resources for me. I had no place to store them however, so I just made piles outside my tent. I like how living things get an instant aquarium when you place them on the ground.

I was curious about the app you can get for your phone, although, I haven't played with that yet.

I discovered that many people I work with at the library have played or are playing Animal Crossing too. So I may go back to it when my friend and I finish Diablo II. I should say, IF we finish Diablo II.

I love love love love Animal Crossing.  Sorry I'm not playing it anymore.  When it first came out in 2020, I played it for a full year and then when the DLC came out, I played it for another couple of months.  So I've had my fill of it.  I still play the mobile game, though.  Because I'm insane.

When I was at Super Nintendo World, EVERYONE was wearing Mario T shirts.  So I decided to be a rebel and wore my Mega Man shirt on the day we arrived and my Animal Crossing shirt while at the park.  An employee even commented on my choice of wearing a Mega Man shirt in a Mario themed park.

I discovered that nearly everyone I work with has been playing Animal Crossing. They actually put up a sheet so everyone could put their friend codes on it. I was the first on it. I'm going to rent the game again and see if anyone friend's me, though, I'm skeptical anyone will.

That's funny. Can't wait to read your post on the trip!
