My weekends (which are midweek) are a mix of gaming and schlocky TV and youtube watching with my friend MAD Krammer (Xbox gamer tag).
TV Time: Researched the Dragon Ball timeline on youtube. I have season two of the original series and the four 80s movies out from the library (also vol 2 of the manga). I also watched another episode of Mighty Orbots. I love this show. The animations are so much better than most of the other robot shows of the time. It only went one season though. There was the obligatory Fail Army compliation video too.
Arcade Islands: Vol. One: I got this on a sale and tried it out. It's a collection of games similar to many classic arcade games. A set of games are linked to an island. You have to score well on each to unlock the next island and more games. It was neat, but I got a bit bored with it this time. The games were too simple for my mood. Colorful though.
New Super Lucky's Tale: More coins to get for a Game Pass rewards quest. I continued from where I left off somewhere in the middle of the game. I really enjoy this. I just roamed around from realm to realm completeing platforming and puzzle challenges, collecting coins. I kept going past the required 600 coins until I got a bit frustrated on a realm.
Infinite Guitars: A random pick form Game Pass to gain more Game Pass rewards points. It's modeled on a 16-bit RPG but with rhythm game battles. It plays just like Guitar Hero or Rock Band but with a left-to-right scrolling ribbon. It's quite challenging but fun. The music is like power metal, something like a Mega Man soundtrack. Cool.
Doom ('93): On Game Pass. I played through one of the sets of missions for an achievement but got one before I finished by opening a secret level quite by accident. My friend and I played a ton of this game back in the day, but I don't remember all the secrets.
Earth Defense Force 2025: I bashed my head against this again trying to armor up my Wing Diver. My friend got in with a good group online and I joined. We got through many levels on Hardest difficulty with this 100K armor fiend of a player (my friend an I's armor collectively is only 10K). Even when both my friend and I were down, he would be hardly scratched and easily help us up. I gained a bunch of new, more powerful, weapons to help me in solo play. I got far on a Hard difficulty run on solo but not all the way to the achievement yet. By the end of the long session of being beaten and bashed around, I was so angry and annoyed I vowed never to play it again. But I always do that. EDF can be a huge chore that never seems to end. EDF 4.1 on PS4 (a remaster of 2025), however, is much more generous. I only wish I could get my friend to play it. Solo play only interests me so far.
Arkanoid Eternal Battle: An updated and online version of the orginal Arkanoid. It even includes a port of the original arcade machine. I played the modern version and its online battle mode. Then a lot of the orginal arcade port. It's great, but I still feel a dial controller is necessary for really accurate control. It took me a while to get good at it with a standard controller. It's just too sloppy using only a thumb on a analog stick. I need my whole hand on a dial for this.
1943: Battle for Midway: I played this on Capcom Arcade Stadium volume 1. I played all the special modes for in-game points. One was a score attack mode and another for time. I played time mode for over 20 minutes and got past level 7. I forget how many levels there are. I had to stop for the night at that point, so didn't finish it. Great game. My friend and I used to play it co-op in the arcades back in '87. I'd love to do a rock cover of the theme music. Anyone want to form a game related rock band? We could do cons.
