New console, Happy Meal toys and games played this week. Also OG Astro Boy episode 1 watched. Black and white and very influenced by early Disney animations. Good stuff.
New Buys! I got a Retron77 this week with a Amazon birthday gift card for about $70. This is an Atari 2600 retro console that has HDMI outs and a memory card. I watched a video of someone who loaded a new UI and a thouand Atari games on it. Interesting, but I'm mainly in it for the cartridges, the authentic experience. It's smaller than a 2600, which is nice. I already have no room left for new consoles. I'm planning to use February as a Atari month and get some real quality use out of it. Here's a pic.
New Happy Meal Toys: I've started decorating my game space with Happy Meal toys. I usually stop by Mcdees before work anyway, so why not. It's stupid fun, which is like my middle name. This time it's Disney 100 figures (I only collect figures mostly). Here's a pic of the poster. I've got four of them now: Shazam, Gorgu, Daisy Duck, and one female I have to look up. I'll post a pic latter on. They are very small figures. You can put them on your device to play a little game on the Happy Meal web site. You just defend against incoming missiles with timed button presses. All of them are the same just with different graphics.
Game Played This Week:
Limbo: Just a little bit. 20 deaths for rewards points. I managed a new achievement by going the wrong way in a level. Not sure how I even did that. This time I got stuck on the first spider boss. I can't reach that trap up in the tree, so what? I just died on that spider 10 times to finish the rewards. Great game though, just not my thing usually.
Minecraft: Something made me think of playing Minecraft again this week and Mad Krammer and I shared a world and quickly started challenging each other to see who could build the biggest building. I completed mine, plus a tunnel and bridge to his town across a river. He began a much bigger building before we stopped playing. It was fun but I couldn't find a lick of coal. That stuff used to be pretty common at a certain level underground but they changed a lot over the years. Nothing is where it used to be anymore.
Thirsty Suitors: This is on Game Pass and is my goto for a daily GP play and achievement right now. It's a kind of RPG that also tells a story of a young Indian woman, her family, friends, and especially her exes. Everyone seems keen to marry her off, the exes and her family. So you battle these suitors with inventive turn-based attacks that simulate modes of communication between potential couples. Oh and you traverse the world via a skateboard, doing moves in the eniviroment for rewards you can use in battle. Dating sim/graphic novel/rpg/skate game? Is there a word for that mashup? Anyway, it's interesting and funny, so I'm still playing it.
EDF 2025: Mad Krammer and I are still at it online on Xbox. I've finished all the Hardest achievements and now have only the Inferno ones for all four characters. I probably have 50 some levels worth to do, and not easy at all. I'm totally relying on pro players to carry me through these levels. I don't know any other way to do it. Luckily there are several, who, when they are on, are very helpful. MK and I actually time our playing to match up with these players. I've given myself until the end of the year to finish up this game. I have plans for 2024 that will see me boxing up my Xbox for a while. I'll reveal that stuff later.
Suduko/Mahjong/Wordament/Pikmin Bloom: Finished Silver on Suduku for the month so now it's just a simple game a day to get to 100 plays. I have only 15 or so to go.
Doing terrible in Mahjong this month. I feel like they are making them difficult for me because they know I'm about to stop playing it. Silly idea, but today's tech can make you paranoid.
Loving Wordament and grinding away at "story" mode after the dailies.
Finding reasons to walk to plant flowers in Pikmin Bloom. Yesterday I stumbled across a Water Mushroom under attack by four other players' Pikmin. I joined in with my water Pikmin and we finished it off in a matter of minutes. That was a fun find during my walk. I'm considering stopping, but stuff like this keeps me going in this game.
Well that's a week. I'm active on Reddit now as well. It's kind of fun. I've been posting on communities like r/amiibo and r/skylanders as well as various consoles, publishers, and individual games' subreddits. Also general communities like r/Marvel, r/videogames, r/retrogames and such. Nothing beats a good blog on Pixlbit though. I love longer form writing here. Thanks Pixlbit for still being there.
