Exclusively Switch, For Now

Finally, I am Switch exclusive right now. I already have youtube running for meal times, and I'm exploring the story and news apps thoroughly. I'm also just as impatient with every game I'm playing, taking breaks and jumping around like a manic flea from game to game. Well, maybe I've found a game I will stick to for a while in Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince. Details below.

Super Mario RPG: This remake is very cool. When I got to the tadpole music mini-game I suddenly remembered I had played the original on Wii years ago. So I must have the original on my Wii memory stick. Great! I'd love to play the original again for comparison. Anyway, I'm enjoying it. I really love the battle system that I first experienced in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. It takes some getting used to the timing for certain monsters though. It's not always clear what the timing is until you've fought a particular beast a few times.

Wargroove 2: I got restless and so played another level of this. Levels take a good long time, so I do one here and there between other games. I'm on the second group of missions.

Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed Special: Got this on a sale for $20 with money I got from Fetch, the receipt scanning app. It's a pretty wacky game, which is why I got interested. You live in Akihabara, the Japanese electronics and Otaku district of Tokyo. Check it out.

You're abducted and altered by a group who wants to drain citizens of their life energy. They are Energy Vampires called Synthisters. You're rescued and soon join a group set out to stop them. The way they fight is by tearing the clothes off the Synthisters to expose them to light. It's rediculous and really funny when you get a combo going and you just tear off every foes' clothes, one piece at a time, in quick succession. Don't worry though, it's not particularly explicit, just rather low res nakedness, mostly just down to skivies, but a perfectly executed battle strips them bare but with blurred parts. The story isn't bad actually and exploring Akihabara is pretty fun. I love reading the handouts you can get from salespeople that advertise real businesses.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince: I played the demo of the recent release and got hooked. It looks a lot like Dragon Quest VIII with a lot of the same characters and monsters. I hope though it is more than just scouting for monsters and fighting them in an arena. I like that enough to warrent a purchase, but I hope there's something more, which I think there must be for a full-priced title. Let's see a trailer.

I'm going to pick it up later today, physical copy.

Elder Scrolls Blades: I read a thing on Reddit about free games on Switch, and so I went on a search and found this which you can also play on phones. It's a first-person dungeon crawl with crafting and city building. The battle system is active but you're locked in to a position. So you pull the L and R buttons to swing your weapon and push forward on the left stick to pull up a defensive pose. The animations are right out of Oblivion or Skyrim and the dialog even sounds like those games. I'm rebuilding a city and helping the citizens out at the same time. Let's see a trailer:

It's a free-to-play game so there's lots to buy to help you if you want. It's not too pushy about it though. There are arenas to battle in and other special events popping on a daily basis. I only hope the story isn't just endless, because I get a little frustrated with a game that never ends. So far so good though.

Well, I now have more than I can handle on Switch already and more to come. What can I actually get done by the end of the month, really? Uncertain, but I will probably leave a dozen games half done when I change gears in January. Sigh, time.

The main character of DQM: The Dark Prince, Psaro, is actually the villain of DQ4.

I loved SMRPG Remake. It's short, but it's still fun. There's some added post-game content, but it isn't heavy duty.

The post game boss battle re-fights in Mario RPG are really HARD!

Okay cool. I haven't played DQ4 yet. I wish they'd put out all the DQ games like they did with Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection.

I got really close to the end of SMRPG but am stuck at the area with six doors. I beat the two battle oriented ones but I can't beat the puzzle or platformer ones. . . yet.

I found a three-in-one cartridge of Dragon Quest I-III in Maine while I was visiting Ranger, another former 1UP acquaintance. I picked it up. It's in English and everything.

Nice. I have those three on two GBC carts. I and II together and then III.

I miss Ranger's posts here. I have Tamson on my Facebook though.

I got a review code for the DQ Monsters game.  Back when I wrote for The Dallas Morning News, I reviewed the very first Dragon Warrior Monsters game on Game Boy.  My brother Jeff was only 5 at the time and could barely read, but he loved that game so much that he confiscated it from me after I reviewed it and just kept it for himself after that.  So because of that, I am having him review the new DQ Monsters game!

Cool. I'll be interested to read that. I bought the first DQ Monsters games for GBC a few months ago.
