My game session was interupted by a car repair and now a rain storm keeping me in the library for a while. I don't mind though because the library is my favorite place. So, anyway, I've changed up my gaming plan to simplify it all and started playing a few new and old things.
I'm playing one retro game a week for 52 weeks. I'm only using 47 of them though counting from 1977 on the first week of the year. It's the earliest year I can think of something interesting to play. So this week is week 22, which means year 1998 in this system. I chose Turok 2 because I have it on N64 and there is a remaster available on Xbox.
I played it again on N64 after these many years and boy is the N64 controller tricky to get used to again. I'm using the single stick to look and the yellow buttons to move, the RB to jump and the trigger to shoot. Awkward! I got used to it, but it's a very slow and inacurate control scheme. Yuk. I can't wait to try the remaster if it goes on sale. It's $20 but I'll get it at $10.
My current gen game is Capcom Arcade Stadium. I got to it from this formula: It's been 48 months since 2020 when the generation started (XSX, PS5). I stretch those 48 months out over a year of 12 months. That's 4 months to chose from every month. So in May this year, I'm looking at games that came out in 2021, May-August. I chose CAS to start.
Within CAS I've been playing everything I'm interested in, which is, so far, all brawlers: Dynasty Wars, Final Fight, Warriors of Fate; and shooters: 1943, Varth, and Carrier Air Wing. I've been playing all the trials starting with time trial and getting to the very end of the games. Most of them take between 30 and 60 minutes to beat, at least for me. It's the first time I've let myself take advantage of unlimited continues.
The collection is really great. I love all the customizable options for gameplay and visual formating. A super great presentation of these old arcade games.
I also broke my brain on Duke Nukem and Quake II a little bit. Having to search levels for key cards is so darn annoying sometimes. Also controls are sometimes not ideal. Dukey has incredibly slow weapon swaping and Quake moves too fast for its own good making jumping a chore. I enjoy these games, but not as much as I used to.
I finished Little Kitty, Big City. It ended a lot sooner than I expected. I had only gotten four fish and had enough strength to climb all the way up. But I'm still enjoying hunting the city for other minor challenges like recyling cans, finding the last animal quests and other things I haven't looked up yet. It'll be finished soon though. I should look into Stray. It's like this game but much greater content and realism.
I've downloaded Mechwarrior 5 from Game Pass for tomorrow. I'm currious about it.
Next week will be week 23 and 1999. I've chosen Medal of Honor as my retro game. Current gen for June will be chosen from 2021 Sept-Dec. This is tough because I've played all my favorites already from that holiday season (Halo Infinite, The Gunk, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep, Serious Sam 4, Forza Horizon 5 and Diablo II Resurected). I may hunt some unfound achievements in those or try some new stuff that might be on Game Pass or on sale.
Have a good week.
