These are my picks from the 5th page of Metacritic's Best-of-All-Time list for 2007-2009

Valkyria Chronicles (PS3): I still have the physical disc for PS3. I have the digital version on PS4 as well. I was totally enamored of the hand-drawn graphic style of this game the moment I saw the trailer on PS3 in 2008. I even had the art book for it at one time. I've played it many times but never to completion as it gets very challenging. Still, I love to replay as much of it as I can whenever I can. I was a little surprised not to see the digital version on Xbox since they released VC:Revolution and VC4  there (VC2-3 were PSP titles). I can't have too many copies of this game.

Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes (DS): I believe I rented this from Gamefly way back in 2009 and immediatly loved the unique puzzle-battle gameplay. Then it was ported to Xbox Live in 2011 and I played it again. It's still available digitally on Xbox Series S and everything else. I've never owned the DS original for some strange reason, and so I have been trying to remedy this. I need this portable, although Switch is mostly portable, just not pocket sized.

Patapon (PSP): I got a PSP probably not in '05 but maybe soon after I got a PS3 in '09. I was a fan of PS3 action-RPG Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom and they did two PSP games where Mark and I played co-op via wi-fi networking. I think it was the first time I played a multiplayer game across two handhelds. Since then I've traded all my PSPs and all the games. The system is a bit delicate and the batteries decay and become unusable. Too much trouble, so I bailed on it. Luckily, though, I have the digital versions of Patapon 1 & 2 on my PS4 (I nearly cried when I sold my physical copies of Patapon 1-3). I'm not sure if you can still buy the digital versions on the PS store though. Anyway, this is a 2D sumi-e graphical style RTS using rhythm gameplay. It's so unique. I love it.

Dragon Age: Origins (X360): I have the digital version on Xbox Series S and have played a few hours of it last year. I think I had a little bit of trouble getting used to the gameplay. You can either adjust the behavior of the AI or control it totally turn-based. I'll give it another shot for sure. I loved some of the later games in the series.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin (DS): So after getting into the series with Dual Strike, I went back to the 2 previous GBA games (which are now on Switch and I bought day-one). Then I picked up this last game Days of Ruin on some sale, and it has been sitting in my collection unplayed ever since. Why? Maybe I picked up a 3DS just after I got this game and never went back to DS? Anyway, I need to play this.

I've discovered that I have a pretty sizable DS collection from these years, and most of them complete-in-box too. I'm happy about that. Now to get to them all.

Any of this of interest?

The demo for Patapon made it look really fun, but once I got the game, I found that the demo was actually more fun then the full game!  Personally, my favorite PSP game is Loco Roco and its sequel.  Such awesome games with some of the catchiest tunes in video game history.

LocoRoco is pretty good, but it's the only game that gets me a little sea sick.

Valkyria Chronicles was my favorite game of the 7th generation. Beautiful graphics and fun SRPG gameplay.

It's one of my all-time favorites.

One day I will get around to playing Valkyria Chronicles! It will happen!

I love the battle system in the game. It's a perfect mix of turn-based and real-time. I guess it's a varient of the active-time battle system in a game like FFIV. There aren't any time limits though, just that you can be attacked in real-time as you are moving your players around if they come into line-of-sight by an enemy.

Its battle system is a lot like Sakura Wars, and that's partly because it was made by many of the same people. Unlike VC, Sakura Wars has a full overhead view instead of the over-the-shoulder views and limited perspective of VC (you won't see any of the action until it comes into one of your party members' field of vision.) For the actual combat, it seemed to me like they were trying to adapt the cover system of Gears of War into a turn-based RPG.

Yeah, that's what got me into Sakura Wars. Luckily, I still have SW So Long My Love for Wii. I want to try it again.
