These are my picks from Page 6 on Metacritic for the years 2007-2009

Pure: I own this now on Xbox 360. I've always been keen to get deeply into it after I played a demo when it came out in 2008. It's an quad-bike racing game with stunts you can pull off. It's made by Black Rock Studios who made the MotoGP and ATV Offroad series. I found the feel of the controls to be excellent. I was able to do everything well and pull off stunts very quickly after starting it. I finally have a Pure-only copy not bundled with Lego Batman like it is more commonly found.

Super Paper Mario Wii: I've been wanting to play this for a while. I see it regularly at game stores, but it's always a little too high priced. I can, however rent it from my library when I'm ready. The Paper Mario games are so darn creative and interesting to me. I can't wait to try this one.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village DS: It started with a rental from Gamefly when I used to use that service circa 2008. I quickly got into the whole series. I usually don't enjoy puzzle games but this combines an interesting story, graphics, and appealing music that lured me in. And the puzzles aren't terribly difficult. You can even get hints if you need them, so can't get permanently stuck. I luckily still have the first three games in my collection for DS complete-in-box. I even saw the fourth one, The Last Specter, at my game store the other day. I'm considering it but it isn't that cheap. There needs to be a collection on consoles like they is for the Ace Attourney series. Come on Level 5. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

This is a short list for page 6 but a quality one. What do you think?

Super Paper Mario is a combination of RPG and 2D platforming.  A lot of people bashed on it, but I liked it pretty well.

I didn't get into the Prof. Layton games because the puzzles were like doing math story problems and I had enough of that in school.  It's a shame because I sure did like the style of those games.

Oo, platforming. Well, I'll still give it a shot. Who knows. I may dig it.

The music of the Layton games has especially stayed with me. I'm still figuring out what its style is exactly and who composed it.

I am one of those peole that does not like Super Paper Mario. I think the combination of RPG and 2D platforming—at least the way it's done in this game—waters down both aspects. It's hard to remember specifics because it has been the better part of 20 years since I played it. I do hope you will enjoy it. I'm sure the writing was good, at least.

Prof. Layton is one of those low-key regrets for me. If I had ever tried any of the games, I bet I would have liked it...but I never did.

I saw there's a newish Layton game on Switch. I put it on my wish list.
