Der der. What ho! Nonsense. Here goes. Stuff I bought and played down below.

Bought

Donkey Kong Country Returns Wii ($20 - credit at Game Junkies made it $10) - I used to have this but traded it years ago. I thought it essential for my collection since I have such fond memories of DKC (and I have Tropical Freeze). DKC Returns will kick my butt, but I'll get as far as I can.

Last Xbox 360 store purchases (closes on Monday):

Sniper: Ghost Warrior (75 cents) - I played some Sniper GW 3 a while ago on Game Pass and enjoyed it. This is the first one and under a dollar. I thought it worth it.
Enemy Front ($1) - I played this when it came out (maybe my last X360 game played before I got a Xbox One)  and enjoyed its decent FPS gameplay. It was a bit short but had the unique settings of Poland and Norway. I have since lost my physical copy and for a dollar would revisit it for sure.
Burnout Crash (50 cents) - My friend said it was okay, so why not for the price. It was the last Criterion made Burnout game. It's a top-down view game, however, that might have appeared on Playstation One.
Bionic Commando Rearmed ($1) - This is the first of the Rearmed series (a remake of the NES game). It was only on Xbox Live/PSN/PC. As of Monday, it will only be on PC. The second one is still available everywhere. Worth having, I think.

XSS digital purchases:

Saint Row: The Third Remastered ($6) - Probably my favorite of the series and reamastered. It is on my list for next month's plays and the price is right.
Batman Arkham Collection ($9) - All three Arkham games remastered in one collection! You can't beat that for $9. All of them are on my best-of lists too, so they will be played again.

Played

X360

Half-Life 2 (Orange Box) - I played a little farther in this but got stuck in a town where I couldn't find the ladder to get out. Weird how this eluded me after I'd played it so many times before, but a long time ago. I took a break. I love the gravity gun. So usefull. It's almost like the telekinesis plasmid in Bioshock.
Batman Arkham Asylum - I have the physical copy of this, and since I was logged into 360, I played it, getting very hooked on it. I got pretty far, reaching the batcave. This game is so great on so many levels: Paul Dini wrote it, Mark Hammil and Kevin Conroy as Joker and Batman respectively recalling the Batman Animated Series of '93 and Rocksteady's gameplay is perfect and engaging in every way. It's a magic game I will likely never, ever get tired of playing. Now that I have the remasters, I'll have to play this on XSS as well.

XSS:

Gears of War 2 - I got very deep into a replay of this, almost to the very end. I hit a difficult spot fighting against mortar shooting Locust and took a frustration break. I'm playing on normal difficulty this time. It's not crazy hard at this difficulty, you just have to be careful and use cover well. Noisiest game ever made, I always say.
Halo 3 - I finished the game on normal difficulty. Only the flood dominated levels gave me fits enough to take several frustration breaks along the way. I find MC's shields annoyingly slow to recharge, but I started using the mobile shields and other special items that I have, up until now, ignored.
I always have a selection of skulls active, mostly just cosmetic ones like "rare dialog" and "Grunt birthday party", but I also turned off motion tracking, because I don't really use it anyway. I'm also considering using the one that makes you unable to use alien weapons because I like to stick to UNSC weapons as it is. This will make some levels more challenging however. It's just a joy to revisit this game.

Mass Effect Remastered - The Legendary collection with all three games remastered is on Game Pass. Wow does this first game look great! I've beaten the first game before but there's always more ways to play it. I customized a unique character, made him a biotic, and went through the first mission. I stopped for the week in the Citadel just before entering Chora's Den for a mission.

As the next week approaches, I will start at the beginning of my list again and see what I'm in the mood to continue. Thursday will start the new month and a new set of games to revisit (or start for the first time). I'll drop a blog about that real soon.

Any of these games bring back memories?

My problem with Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze is that they're way too hard!  I can beat DKC1, 2, and 3 on the SNES (at least I think so, if not I can get pretty far), but I can't do that with the two new ones.  Honestly my favorite Donkey Kong platformer is Donkey Kong Jungle Beat that used the bongo controller on the GameCube.  I thought that game was really innovative.

Yeah, I find them all too hard. I've never gotten past 50% of the first game and less for any of the rest. Still, I like to look at them from time to time and see how far I get. I used to have those bongo controllers. Maybe I even tried that game too but I don't remember.
