An End and a Beginning

Ended up my 2007-9 retro gaming and began 2010-2012.

Two last things I played for '07-'09. One was the PS3 version of Bioshock. The loading times before playing were annoying. I'd forgotten about that part of the PS3 experience. I played maybe half of it and unlocked a lot of trophies. Wee, trophies! Second was the remastered version of Batman Arkham Asylum on XSS. I got even farther than on the 360 version from last week, the Batcave. On the remaster, I beat Scarecrow several times, wrapped up Harley Quinn and was on the trail of Poison Ivy when I ran out of time. Such a great game. I had to drag myself from it to start the next list.

To start the next month I played my rented copy of Super Mario Galaxy 2 on Wii (number 1 on my list). I love it. I'm shopping for a copy of my own this month. I was surprised to not get stuck anywhere yet like I remember happening to me years ago. I love all the gravity twisting gameplay and it looks fantastic. When are they going to remaster this for Switch?

I tried to play Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword that I rented for Wii but discovered I needed a Wii Motion Plus adapter. I'm shopping for that right now, although, maybe I could pick up the HD Switch version. . . However, I just want to try it first. I'm a little picky when it comes to Zelda games. So far I've only really enjoyed Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time.

First up on XSS was Mass Effect 2. I played the remastered version as part of the ME Legendary Collection. I got solidly hooked on it for a whole afternoon, getting a little too obsessed with scanning planets for resources. I automated leveling for myself and squad members in this playthrough. I want to get into the details slowly. I started to research new gear. My favorite is to try on new suits of armor for my Shepherd, but I'm not sure how to change up my squad mates yet. I really enjoy the story, exploring, hacking data pads, and unleashing the flame thrower on enemies that get too close. It's a blast. I'm already wondering, when I'm done with the remaster, if I'll replay the original version on both 360 and PS3 for further achievements/trophies. I think one playthrough will take me a while though. I played this game years before this after finishing the first game, but I never completed it.

Back to Game Pass

My Xbox account gave me my reward automatically even though I couldn't find the option anymore on the system. I had thought the auto-rewards had been removed. Then, I was able to redeem the 1-month GPU reward with no issues. Surprise. So, I'm back earning points via Bing and the Xbox App on my phone and playing GP games on console. This week I played The Case of the Golden Idol. This is a murder mystery game, 2D in the style of point-and-click adventures. You examine people and things in a scene and piece together the story to complete it and move on. I did several of them before it started getting pretty complex. I was a little tired that day and stopped for fear of my brain exploding. I liked it though. Fun and a quick download. That's my plan with GP games right now; I play the one with the smallest file size first.

Purchases

I just got Bioshock 2 Remastered for $5 on the current sale on Xbox. It might come up on my list later in the month.

What yer doin'?

I watched my brother Jeff and his friends play BioShock once.  That's a pretty scary game!  Definitely a depature from the games I usually play.

I also watched him and his friends play that Batman Arkham Asylum game.  Since I watched a lot of Batman: The Animated Series as a teen, I knew who a lot of the characters were.  Usually doesn't happen to me with that super hero stuff.

A lot of people bash on Skyward Sword, but I didn't think it was THAT bad.  I'd get the Switch version so you don't have to worry about messing with motion controls if you don't want to.  I'm REALLY looking forward to that new Zelda game in September!

Bioshock is even darker than you think when you look at it closely.

It's so cool they got so many people from the Batman animated series on Arkham Asylum. What a perfect idea.

I can get the Wii version of Skyward sword for cheap, so if I can find a cheap Wii Motion Plus adapter, I'll do that. My library doesn't have the Switch version for me to try unfortuneately, and it's like $45 at Game Stop.
