This would be January 2025 when I will be focusing on the first generation of consoles and games from the 70s in general, plus some digging into even older stuff if I run out of games to play. It will be the beginning of the year and the beginning of games, video or otherwise. Here's the first list I wrote up:
Pong - Not hugely interesting to me but I will revisit the Playstation game Pong Next Level again and check out Pong Quest on current systems. What's more interesting to me is what they did with a single player version called Breakout.
Breakout, Super Breakout, Breakout 2000 (Atari Jaguar), Breakout Recharged (current systems) - I became really keen on "brick breakers" in early 2024 and want to get into them even deeper in 2025. I have a Atari Paddle Plug 'n' Play I picked up to try. I'm also into finding the perfect controller for these types of games because most of them haven't pleased me yet. The holy grail is the one bundled with Arkanoid for NES, which I hear is the best dial-controller. I may try and get one.
Arkanoid - Arkanoid (NES), Arkanoid Doh It Again (SNES), Arkanoid Returns (PS), Arkanoid DS, Arkanoid Vs. Space Invaders (part of Space Invaders Invincible Collection), Arkanoid Eternal Battle (current systems). This will give me some stuff to hunt down at my local shops. Oh joy!
Alleyway (GB) - This is a Breakout clone that I might find. It's mechanics were built into Kirby's Block Ball (GB) which might be interesting to play as well. Good reasons for looking through Game Boy carts too.
Space Invaders: Space Invaders Part II (GB and in Taito Legends and Space Invaders Invincible Collection), SI DX (SNES, PS, GB, Taito Legends 2), Space Raiders (NGC), SI Extreme 1-2 (DS, XBLA, Invincible Collection), SI Infinity Gene (XBLA, PSN). All this means I will definitely be buying Space Invaders Invincible Collection on Switch or PS4. It includes my favorite SI spinoff, Lunar Resuce as well.
That's the meat of it but here's some more if I have time:
Mattel Handhelds (LED based portable games)
Oregon Trail (Gameloft did a modernization of it recently I'd like to try out)
Asteroids
Galaxian
Lunar Lander (and especial Lunar Rescue, and kind of '79 sequel)
Sea Wolf
Zork
Gee Bee and sequels, Bomb Bee and Cutie Q: Unfortuneately I will likely only have access to Cutie Q on Wii's Namco Museum Remix/Megamx collections.
dnd (first computer version of Dungeons & Dragons for the PLATO)
Skee Ball (within Carinval Games on current systems)
Pinball (Farsight Studios, Zen Studios and Zacarria and maybe a few more make good simulations of old cabinets)
Board Games
Puzzles - I've gotten into puzzle making and I have a video game themed one I'd like to build.
That's all for now. Gotta run. Work, work, work.
