70s and More

Really, two weeks of stuff here. I swap out consoles like they were cakes on display at a cake shop except for the Xbox Series S, which is always hooked up.
I broke out the PS2 for:
Taito Legends - Space Invaders, Space Invaders II, Phoenix
Taito Legends 2 - To play 1979's Lunar Rescue.
Pinball Hall of Fame: Gottlieb Collection - I played all the pre 80s tables: Ace High, Big Shot, Central Park and Genie.
Namco Museum 50th Anniversary Collection: Galaxian.
And broke out the PSOne for Breakout. This is a interesting attempt to make Breakout a kind of action adventure game. You break down walls and even fight enemies by knocking the ball at targets in a 3D view. It's neat but controls are tricky. I switched to my PS2's dual shock controller and it was better but not great. The newer reimaginings of Breakout like Neo Breakout, Breakout Recharged or even Doughlings Arcade seem to have nailed the controls.
I downloaded SNK's 40th Anniversary on Xbox for the only 70s game there, Ozama Wars, a fixed screen shooter, and it's pretty good but hard.
I set up my original Xbox. I used a different power cord. I used a third-party AV cord with multiple system imputs and plugged in the component cables, which didn't work. So I switched to just the old 1 yellow for video (S-Video?) and that worked fine. It didn't even have some of the color problems I had with the system last time I used it. I wonder if it was that weird power cable I had with a mysterious wall-wart attached that I got with the system years ago? Still, the component cables should work but it could also be my $25 Goodwill TV. But if S-Video will work, so bit it. I played Atari Anthology for Breakout, Super Breakout, Off The Wall, and the bonus Nolan Bushnell interview which was the best part since the controls on those brick-breakers aren't great.
Just like last year, I rip through these 70s games and remakes so fast I am left with some time on my hands and so I returned to somethign I started around Christmas, Lego Star Wars The Skywalker Saga. I'm starting to clear groups of planets and get achievements again. I'm really enjoying the exploration and mini-challenges along the way, however, Lego game platforming is still a bit wonky and a little frustrating.
Alleyway wouldn't play on my GBA SP. I cleaned it but no go. My friend Mark got some tools online so we can open it up and see what's wrong with it.
Microsoft Solitaire - No more achievements I can reasonably get and so I just play to unlock the Fable deck, the ultimate unlockable custom deck. I'm getting close by just played a few rounds every day.
My buddy Mark, who is always gaming in the same room with me when I game, is still playing NHL 25 nonstop. I get a bit tired of hearing the crazed annoucer loosing his mind every time a goal is scored, but he enjoys the game to no end. I can't help but imitating it for fun from time to time.
Next week I break out the Wii, hopefully fix Alleyway, and use the Switch as a handheld.
