Last of Us, Massive Chalice, and Remember Me

The comic Last of Us #3 came out today and I read it. Finally most of the major players of the game are present, the Infected and the Fireflies. Both the art and story are very good. The game still hasn't risen in my interest to more than a curiosity. I have the Last of Us demo that came with God of War Ascension that's still sitting shrink wrapped on my TV table. Maybe when I play that it'll move up to a must buy.

And the Double Fine Action Cast had a new podcast episode today talking about the music and sound effects work being done for Massive Chalice. They pointed out the fact that doing a Kickstarter gives them a lot of creative freedom over working with a big publisher. I think that's great and can't wait to see what interesting stuff they come up with in the sound design.

This ad for Remember Me was in several other comics I got this week. You get the main character on the front with some intriguing text that tells you the game has something to do with playing with memories. The cells at the bottom show some gamplay screens that suggest some melee fighting, shooting and platforming all probably in third person. I like the orange color in the background. It contrasts strikingly with the nearly colorless figure. Orange and black were used in Half-Life and the logo even looks a bit like the Half-Life logo. Perhaps that suggests some similarities between the two games. I'll have to see some gamplay footage to see about that.

What platform is Massive Chalice coming out on? I'll buy just about anything Double Fine puts out. I probably won't be buying The Last of Us, though. So not into zombie games. Remember Me has had me intrigued ever since the first preview I read.

Massive Chalice seems to be for PC only so far.

The cover art for Last Of Us is friggin fantastic! "Remember me" seems interesting as well even though the reception for it has been lukewarm.

The trailer makes me think of Deus Ex: Human Revolution a bit.

I wonder how many projects will be funded by Kickstarter going forward. Will it remain the case that artists still have freedom with these, or will people be less likely to invest unless they start having a say in the process? Depends on what we get from these Kickstarters I guess. Fascinating to think about.

I think for a company like Double Fine, who already have a passionate fanbase, Kickstarter is a perfect way to fund their games. People trust them and want them to do their thing.

I reviewed the Remember Me strategy guide.  Looks like an interesting game.  Maybe not my cup of tea, but still an interesting game.

Yea, it looks like it has a healthy dose of stealth gameplay which is not my thing at all. I am curious though. Maybe a demo will be released and I can try it out.

I definitely want to play Remember Me, though I'll have to wait a while to get it. Money, you know. But I love the setting and the story looks really cool.

I'm completely stoked to play The Last Of Us. I've been pregaming it by starting the Uncharted games until I'm able to get my hands on a copy.

And by the way, I'm loving Uncharted so far. I can't believe I waited so long to play it. Ughh..

I want to go back and play through all the Uncharted games. I've only played the first one.  I'm always torn between getting older stuff and sticking to what's new. Right now I'm trying to play some new downloadable games on XBLA and PSN and working my way back. Somehow I've got to find more time so I can get to all that stuff I've missed.

Dark Horse puts out some great content. I'm a big fan of the hardcover books they publish relating to video game art, too. I'm going to find those Last Of Us comics this weekend. I had no idea Double Fine did a podcast. Is it on iTunes? Will have to look it up because I listen to game podcasts quite a bit during my work travels.

Yep. it's on iTunes as Double Fine Action Cast. It's not very regular but lately there's been several about Massive Chalice.
