Garage Sale Genny

I certainly don’t fancy myself a video game collector, but I do have more games than I can play for systems old and new. I’m always interested in trying out games that are new to me and this inevitably sends me out looking for and buying more games. Every once in a while, I head out to garage sales and thrift stores, but I almost never find anything even related to video games except for the occasional PS2 sports game or Dora PS1 game that has been vigorously rubbed with 40 grit sand paper. Then, two weeks ago, I actually had some luck! I was driving the dog home from the vet on a Saturday and decided to whiz through garage sales on the way. I found a Genesis with a bunch of games for $25 (after the requisite haggling process).

Now, I already have a Genesis, and I already have a lot of these games, but there are quite a few notable items I don’t have and would like to try, primarily Rocket Knight Adventures. The other Genesis I have is also a version 2 and I’m not sure which one I’ll like more. I’m not attached to the other one that I have since I got it for a similar price and with a similar size bundle of games on ebay a few years ago.

Once I actually have time to hook this thing up, I’m excited to try out a few of these and see what I missed out on during the era when I was solely a PC gamer and pining for a SNES. After I play these games a little comes the worst part: finding where to keep them.

OMG You have Rocket Knight! I used to love that game as a kid... So many fond memories. I think that got played more than Sonic in our house.

Mine are both Model 2s now. The Model 1 was wider and had a maroon stripe. I haven't run into a Saturn yet...

Garage Sale Genny...sounds like the name of a video game character.

Hey you got the Barney game!  I know you're looking forward to that. :)

The hardest part will be seeing what still works!

Haha, well, I do have a 2 (almost 3) year old daughter so it might get some use. I actually don't mind trying those games out (for a few minutes) anyway since every once in a while they have unique ideas going on. Most of the time, though, they're like the princess game we have on the 3DS where you press "B" to say "OK". Undecided

All joking aside, I actually really enjoy reviewing kids' games.  Any opportunity I can get to review a game geared towards kids, I gladly take it!  I've always had an interest in kids' games.  They deserve good games, too!

I love Rocket Knigh Adventures! I could make it to the final boss, but I never beat him.

Nice haul! Especially that Barney game! Sonic and Knuckles is probably my favorite Sonic game. Aladdin on Genesis was great, but it gets pretty insane.

I have Sonic 1 and 2 but have never played Sonic & Knuckles. Looking forward to figuring out how to use that wacky cart.

I need to see about getting another version 2 model in time. I have one but for some odd reason it won't work right with my 32X. Hopefully it's my model 2 and not my 32X.

I've always wanted a Sonic & Knuckles cart to test out on my sonic 1, 2, and 3. For now I'll have to make due with my XBLA digital copies.Nice find!

I go to garage sales sometimes and, like you, I'm always hoping to find some treasure trove. I have yet to get anything new as good as that haul though.

Can't go wrong with Rocket Knight Adventures, that game is one of the few that stands the test of time and is still fun. I find a lot games lose appeal over time, that's just my opinion though.
