I grabbed this to prepare for ACV. It probably has the most rudimentary graphics I've ever seen on the 360. I couldn't get into it too much, mainly because of the control set up. ACV made all the right adjustments, though, and I really loved it. I hope you like 4, though. It just wasn't for me.

I've started gathering the 2007 games I want to play for Achievement Quest. I'm almost done with 2006, and I had an itch to buy something today, so I got Armored Core 4 for $9. I didn't get an original case with this one, but I'm not so into that anymore. It just takes too much time to go track down. These days, I pick the nearest GameStop to me that has the game and just hope.
Armored Core 4 is a From Software game that's all about Mechs. You drive them, customize them and fight with them. That's about it. From Software has done a lot of mech games. Chromehounds came out the same year as Armored Core 4 and the Steel Battalion series is also by From. Along with all thier tough as nails RPGs, I think they just gravitate to whatever is hard-core and niche in gaming. Maybe From should change their name to Hard-Core Games instead.
I think what will make this fun for me is if Armored Core 4 is not TOO hard-core. I don't want overly complicated menu screens showing me an endless list of parts for my mech, and I don't want controls that need a hundred button periferal like Steel Battalion had. Luckily the wiki page suggests this is a more accessible entry in the long running Armored Core franchise. So I'm glad for that.
Armored Core 4's achievements don't look too difficult, but obviously getting high rankings on Hard difficulty is going to be tougher. Luckily the guide on Xbox360achievements.org has lots of links to players who've spelled out what strategies to use. We'll see though. I play a game for achievements, but I also play for fun. So whenever a game becomes not so fun, that's the time to move on. Fun first, achievements second, that's my rule.
I don't know if I'll like Armored Core 4, but that's part of the fun. Trying new things sometimes turns up something special.
