Where Are They Now Games

I did a kind of Where Are They Now search for some of my favorite old school games the other day.

There was a bunch of interesting ports of classic arcade and second generation console (Atari 2600/ColecoVision/Intellivision) games for PSP and DS in remix form (I'm favoring handheld for the most part because I have all the console collections already). There's Atari Classics Evolved, Namco Museum Battle Collection, Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded and Remixed for PSP; and Retro Atari Classics, Intellivision Lives, Namco Museum, and Konami Classics Series: Arcade Hits for DS; and Namco Museum Remix for Wii. Some of those early games are on PSN, Virtual Console and 3DS eShop and some, like a lot of Atari arcade and console games, are on iOS, only I can't play them there because my iPod Touch is too old.

Then I dug into some 90's stuff. I found Wizardry 6 and Hexen, with it's expansion pack, on Steam for $5 each and Golden Axe III on the Sega Genesis Collection for PSP (I have this on PS2 but I was looking for handheld versions of a lot of these games because I think they would all work really well there). Hogs of War on PS1 is now available on PSN. I'm so thrilled about that - one of my favorite multiplayer games. The only game that will be difficult to play today is WarCraft II. It's only playable on modern computers if you download DosBox. I still have my disc of the game, but I'll have to figure out DosBox to get it to work.

Tomorrow I've decided to cancel my preorder of Wind Waker Wii-U and put the money into some of these collections. I need to wait a bit to pay off my Vita before I grab a Wii-U. I may get one around Christmas, which would be a fun thing to do.

I bought Sonic's UGC when it came out like 3 or 4 years ago and I think I still have like a dozen games to play on it. The problem is even with 40+ games on the collection almost all of them you will try once, say "that was neat" and never try it again. The only games I beat on that collection were the Phantasy Stars.

Sure beats paying $300 on a Wii U for a game you might only try once though!

I got that SUGC for 360 day one too. It's soooo aweseome. The Phantasy Star games and Shining Force games and Golden Axe games all make it one of the best buys ever!

I wanna get that collection eventually but not for the 360. I hate that D-pad. Playing Bionic Commando Rearmed with that was brutal.

It's also on PS3.

Phantasy Star is indeed awesome! I should probably give Shining Force another try. I didn't like Golden Axe, but I also don't like beat-em-ups as a whole.

I found most of the Phantasy Star games pretty hard, but I did get a lot farther into Phantasy Star IV.

Yes, the first two were really hard. I only actually beat the first and fourth games. Never even played the third one because I knew it wouldn't be the Phantasy Star I was expecting.

I need to use a guide and finish all of them. I love the concept of those games a lot.

I like those kind of collections. I'm still debating if I should buy them physically or digitally, if only to save space.

A lot of the individual games are available to download on current consoles or handhelds. I just love collections and have to have them all. There are a few select games that are only available on these collections. Not too many though.
