Fuck me. That battle theme hastened my resolve to buy a 3ds lol.

Monday I played World Series of Poker: Full House Pro on XBLA with my friend Mad Krammer. I've been choosing tournament play because it's a shorter, elimination type game. Standard Ring games can go on forever with people popping in and out at random. I'd do ranked games but you can't bring your friends with you. You have to play alone against other ranked players. That's no fun. There's a single player mode too but again, no party, no fun. It looks like Monday nights are the only times I'm going to get with my friend anymore though. WSOP is fun, but I wonder sometimes why I'm playing a card game on a system that can render whole worlds like in Skyrim.
Tuesday I picked up my preorder for Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl. It's quickly becoming my new favorite game, but I still can't see it toppling Ni No Kuni for my game of the year yet. I've been playing it all week before bed, one trip into the Strata (dungeon) at a time. I carry the 3DS with me all day, but I've only found a couple short moments to play even a little bit at a coffee shop or in my parked car waiting to go to work. One trip into the Strata takes roughly a half-hour including all the item selling and stat and equipment management you do once you return to town. I listened to the included soundtrack. Nothing really stands out as exceptional. It's just fine. I always like the battle music in RPGs though.
Wednesday through Friday I was thinking a lot about my must-have games from 2009 and high on that list was Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story on DS. Gamestop had a loose cart for $25, but I saw it complete at Best Buy for $35. I really want this game complete if I can, but I'm not willing to pay that much right now since I'm still making up money from last week. I looked around at a couple other stores to see if anyone was selling it new for $20, which seems like the highest price to ask for a four year old game, but no luck there.
Saturday I wanted to buy a game and, putting aside the still pricey Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, I looked at my list of about ten games that were all at or under $10. On top was Uncharted 2: Among Theives. I got it for $7 at Gamestop. I've played the first Uncharted but missed the next two. I've got to find some time to dig into a complete Uncharted run. Those games look so fantastic and have the thrills of a great action movie. They're absolutely must-have games for the PS3.
Sunday I had to go over to Gamestop (which is walking distance from my apartment btw) and pickup the next title on my list, Halo 3: ODST ($7). I've owned this game before and traded it for some reason, but it HAD to be a permanent member of my collection. I was considering it as a possible Halloween game for its dark atmosphere. I have a very clear memory of being startled by Grunts and Jackles in a dark room. It gave me such a scare and when the room erupted with the flashing lights of the ensuing firefight, I was thrilled. I'll always remember that moment. Great stuff! Then my gaming buddy called me last minute and I went over there to play a couple rounds of WSOP. I played single player and beat the first pro for an achievement. I'm basically pretty bored of the game now, but I am making an effort to get whatever achievements I can without spending money or a ton of time. I want to get back to Oblivion.
