Scanning for Games

I got to scanning in my comics covers today and found a few ads that looked interesting relating to games. I also shot the music CD I got with a suitably creepy light effect that by chance appeared on my iPod. I love capturing chance moments like that.

(that must be my steering wheel with the sun shining through it)

I picked up metal band Iced Earth’s Plagues of Babylon today on CD. It comes with a DVD full of extras as well and it was cheaper than labeled at only $12.99. I mention it here because if it weren’t for the game Brutal Legend having introduced me to this band with the track “Pure Evil”, I wouldn’t have even known about them.

The third infamous game had an ad in one of my comics. It’s pretty cool showcasing the main character surrounded by the city scape that he will roam around in and cause a lot of destruction. I have the first one on my PS3 from that time they gave it away to apologize for the hack of PSN. I’ve always meant to play the series, but never quite got around to it. I like that’s it’s a Sony exclusive series also.

Looks like Scribblenauts: Unmasked is getting a comic series. The first one came out this week subtitled Crisis of Imagination and I almost bought it. I already had too many comics to get though, so I passed. I don’t know why I’m attracted to this comic. I just like those cutesy super hero characters I guess.

And just as I was thinking, wouldn’t it be great if Atomic Robo got a game or TV series, I see this, the Atomic Robo Roleplaying game. Yea, it’s not exactly what I was thinking but a table top game is still pretty cool. If you read the ad you get a great sense of what Atomic Robo is all about.

Cool, a Scribblenauts comic book?

Yea, issue one was out this week and I almost picked it up. None of the writers or artists are familiar to me, but I loved the cover. Maybe if next week is slow, I'll pick it up and see if it's good.

i was really into the idea of that Scribblenauts game, but I heard it was so-so and kind of lost interest.  Maybe when it's real cheap I will get it.

I just put it on my Wish List at Backloggery.

Nice, Brutal Legends introduced you to Iced Earth? That's awesome. Seriously, this is why I love gaming soundtracks.

Have you heard of the band Nevermore? They're sort of similar to Iced Earth but they have a lot more Thrash Metal in there top balance out the Power metal, and a little bit of Prog metal for good measure!

I got into Slayer from Vice City (got the box set for that soundtrack) and Soundgarden from Road Rash on PS1 (that whole soundtrack is killer).

Nevermore I've probably heard before but I'll keep my ears open for another go.

I don't know how I feel about the "greatness awaits" tagline plastered over all sony's games, but that print is pretty sweet.

That's the brainwashing line. Repeat it over and over again and subconsciously you start becoming their slave. I like to subvert catch phrases like that with silly associations. Like what if you spelled Greatness as Grateness, which isn't a word but it conjures the Grateful Dead or the largest "grate" you've ever seen. See, I've totally forgot about Playstation games. Darn, I really want that Afrika game on PS3.

That CD cover looks pretty cool.

Oh how I wish I had the cash to spend on a few CDs and comics right now.

The album is a concept. Something about the government unleashing a plague that turns people into zombies who then attack everyone. The heroes are this resistance movement that has to fend off the government and the zombies. I was watching the making of vid on the extra DVD last night and that's how it was explained. There's lots more of the zombie hoard art on the inside, back and all over the lyric book... oh and on the CD and DVD.

Brutal Legend had an awesome soundtrack! There were quite a few bands on there that I didn't know about. I didn't really care for the actual game that much. It was fun at first, but the battles got too complicated later on imo.

Yea, I stopped playing during the RTS segments which I just couldn't manage. I'd love to go back to it and figure it out though. I want to see the end of the game.

I was also a fan of that Iced Earth track from Brutal Legend, even though I also wasn't a fan of the game itself. I'm also strongly considering picking up Scribblenauts for the 3DS.

Yea, I want Scribblenauts too the more I see of it.

I never would have known about ... dammit, now I need to look at Brutal Legend's tracklist.

Atomic Robot looks cool. I like science and robots and punching.

"Face down demented dinosaurs, rogue government agents, and stolen Tesla-powered technologies!" Oh yeah!

Brocas Helm. Brocas Helm was the band I found out about.

And this Atomic Robot thing is sounding better and better.

The wiki page for Brutal Legend lists all the songs. I'm going to have to acquire all these songs to make my own soundtrack. Man, and reading more... the incidental music sounds like it might be good too and Judas Priest's guitarists did the solos for some of the characters in the game. AND... the soundtrack for the incidental music is available on iTunes and Amazon. Oh, I'm getting that!

Yeah, I read that Wiki page a while ago. Might see if BL is on Steam.

Sadly I can't see any of your picutres. they are all just black squares on my browser. Looks like my proxy settings are messing up with things (stupid NSA)

I get that when I first post them, but they appear after I reload the page.

Before I could even have Steam and even before the game was even on that service, I always wanted to play Brutal Legend, since it was released in a time where I was a little Metalhead and it looked so cool that I even went through Wikipedia's list of its soundtrack and heard some of the songs that made me discover some bands (like Iced Earth). Even if i'm not as big as a Metalhead right now, i'm going to get the game soon.

It was funny that Ozzy was kinda like your guide and mentor in the game. He said some funny things too as I remember.

Alex-C25

Yeah, i've seen that the game has some character based on Metal figures that are even voiced by the figures themselves.

Wasn't Lemmy from Motorhead in there somewhere?

Alex-C25

01/27/2014 at 11:01 AM

Yeah, he is in the game, and so is Lita Ford and Rob Halford voicing avatars of themselves.

Oh the PSN freebie games. When I first saw inFamous I didn't think I would enjoy it but it was a lot of fun. I haven't played much of the second but I'm interested to see if the third game will be the big game for the PS4.

Is that the CD you talked about in your last blog? Good stuff on buying the deluxe for $13. If you buy music at Target as well, download their app Cartwheel. There is a resuable coupon for 10% off CDs. It's not a big discount but you do save some cash, which is always a plus!

Thanks for reminding me. I forgot to add inFamous to my backloggery page. Now maybe it'll come up next time I choose a game at random to play.

Yes, it was the same one. That Target app sounds cool. I'll remember that when Behemoth's Satanist album comes out next month.
