I missed a day of BaD due to Icepocalype. Yesterday night there was freezing rain that added to the already snow heavy trees and brought down branches and whole trees down all over during the day. I just managed to pick up my comics. The store hadn’t any power, but they were open for cash transactions. But on the way back, I actually witnessed a tree coming down. It came down over the road and then got trapped in the power lines. I turned down a side street and got around it but what a sight that was!

Almost every street in my area had trees down and power was out all over the place. Luckily my apartment building was spared a power outage, but it was one of the few. I had to go to work of course, because unfortunately they had power too; so, I drove all over the area and saw all the mayhem: transformers exploding, cars crushed by trees, power lines across the roads, and emergency vehicles everywhere.

Now they’re talking about an even bigger storm coming over the weekend. Seriously?! If it wasn’t that I have to drive in it for work, I wouldn’t mind so much. I’d be out there cross-country skiing. I still have my skis and shoes, so I could do it. But working in this stuff is nuts and really, really annoying.

Come to Texas, where if we see a bit of ice on the ground, it means we have off that day. Until those bastards show up with sand and salt or whatever. Memo to self: buy industrial strength rocks light enough to throw.

I want to go to Dallas and join the team at Gearbox. Oh yeah!

Well, Plano, which is an affluent city inside the DFW metroplex, but I'd prefer working for Retro down in Austin. I love Dallas, I was born and raised there, but Austin has so much personality.

Friend of mine went to that South By Southwest music festival in Austin last year. I'd like to go sometime.

We had the same situation here in Toronto on the weekend before Christmas week. Trees/branches just couldn't hold the added weight. I had no power for 2 days, and some people were out of power for 4 days.

There are a lot of people around here without power probably for the rest of the weekend. Time to take a vacation is what I say.

I didn't miss picking up my comics though. Storm be damned. See where my priorities are. I did try and get the blog in just before work when I went to the library, but they lost power too and I was stuck. I tried to figure out how to post a blog with my iPod Touch but I didn't have access to a wifi hotspot and in any case it was too crazy at work to even think I had time to go do that. i would've loved to post one from my iPod though. That would've been a first.

I survived the Ice Storm of '98. No power for four days and I crashed my truck when I was out getting a hot meal and some drinking water (I live in the boonies and I'm on a well. No electricity means no pump, no pump means no water). I was living in a trailer at the time and there was this huge dying oak tree over my bedroom. I decided that maybe it was time to set up camp in the living room. One of the limbs did come down, but luckily it just made a lot of noise and didn't do any damage. What I remember most was listening to the trees explode - it sounded like someone shooting at crystal chandeliers, first a bang and then the "crash, tinkle, tinkle".

Glad you didn't lose your power. As of last night my friend Dan in West Chester was still without power.

It wasn't too bad, to be honest (other than the truck thing, but that's another story unto itself), and it was 16 years ago now.

Lots of places around me still don't have power and may not through the weekend. A lot of trees have been moved off the roads now, but new ones are still coming down.

Really hope you stay safe man. I really feel all the suffering it's happening due to the snow. And I thought Belgium was bad enough being very cold without snow....

Thanks, but I'm never safe. I'm always out there in the stuff. It's just what I do. Does that sound like an action hero? Yes   it    does. Har har.

Hot damn, you East Coast folks stay safe. I like to joke about being cold and having to wear a hoodie, but damn no power, trees falling, and there is another storm? That's crazy.

Thanks. I've never seen it snow this much around here. Usually we get a couple storms during the Winter but not one after another like this.

I don't know if I remember the last weekend that it did not snow around here.  Either snow, or weather cold enough to call off school.

"School's out. Forever!" to quote an Alice Cooper song. Around here school will be out the rest of the week at least.

That's rough, but at least you're okay.

A long time ago, I left my apartment to find my car had been crushed by a huge tree branch during a snow storm. This time I looked for a safe parking space, but a tree still almost got me, landing just inches from my hood.

From someone in south-eastern Pennsylvania, I know how you feel. I've been iced in lately. It's not fun.

If I was still a kid. i would love it. No school for a whole week! Yeehaa! When that happened, the whole neighborhood would turn out at the biggest hill in the area and sled all day long. Good times.

Sounds like fun. All that's missing is some giant oversize creatures, you with an heavy assualt rifle and you could be living the videogame "Lost Planet"

Why didn't this happen to me when I was out there =(

That's all I needed, a giant snow worm to spring out of the ground and lay me out.
