I hadn't played any of those games. If I wanted to get into the series, which one should I start with?
“EDF! EDF! EDF!”

Here the battle cry of the soldiers as they do battle to save Earth from the monsters sent by the aliens called The Ravagers.
$50 new
Earth Defense Force 2025, which I picked up today, is technically the sixth game in the EDF series. The first three games were published in Japan and Europe only, two of them for the PS2. Japanese developer Sandlot has made all the EDF games except for Insect Armageddon which was developed by American company Vicious Cycle Software who does many licensed property games. D3, a Japanese publisher specializing in low budget video games, now controlled by Namco Bandai, has published all the EDF games and owns Vicious Cylcle Software.
I’m not sure I’d call EDF 2025 a budget title. It was $50 new which is only $10 less than most new games. EDF 2017 however did feel that way with environments that lacked detail and a laughably simple story and characters and no online features. The gameplay was also very simple. But simplicity is one of EDF’s strengths. EDF 2025 looks more impressive and has many more weapons, vehicles, and online features than previous games in the series, but the formula looks to be basically the same. You run around pell-mell and destroy everything and anything; buldings fall down, hoards of enemy swarm all around you, and you keep shooting. That’s the silly fun of EDF.
Wing Diver class
EDF 2025 is a third person shooter. You have four classes of soldier to choose from such as: the Ranger ground troop, the jetpack wearing female Wing Diver, the medic Air Raider, and the heavy weapons Fencer. There are vehicles in the game like cars, tanks, helicopters (one of which can seat four people), and mechs. The enemies come in two types, biological such as: bees, ants and dragons; and mechanical such as: air and ground machines that look inspired by insects. The best part of all of this is that the game supports four player co-op. I can’t wait to get in there and shout “EDF! EDF! EDF!” and blow up some giant bugs.
