Probably never going to play it, but impressive information nonetheless.

Being the most ambitious project in years, I'm not sure if it is reasonable to expect this game in 2014.The scale and production values promise to be what is on the bleeding edge of what is possible with PC as a gaming platform, one of those event games that a large number of people will upgrade their systems for. Also a game changer in the arena of crowd funding if it delivers on what it promises. Speaking of which...
I love the way that have handled funding on this thing. You pledge funds by buying a single ship, or packages which consist of single or multiple ships plus extras like ship insurance, soundtrack, beta access, in-games startup funds, digital manual, etc. Depending on the ship you buy, you can get access to the Hangar Module, which is a an early build of your hangar and allows you to explore your docked ship. Compared to other crowd-fund projects, you're getting something tangible right up front -or as up front as your download speed allows.
This game is not only significant because of its PC-punishing assets and crowd funding success (near $40,000,000 so far), but because it's a space simulation that is doing all of this, a nearly dead genre. Not content to merely compete with the likes of the X series, game director Chris Roberts, who knows a thing or two about space sims, is trying to show us what the genre is capable of if it had continued to evolve all these years. I hope he succeeds.
