Hopsecutioner. Did Randy Pitchford name this beer?

After eating a Philly cheesesteak and a Terrapin Hopsecutioner beer, I played solo a lot during the approximately seven hours Mark and I played Borderlands 2. I leveled up a Siren to get the achievement for Phase Locking 100 times. That’s a cool skill! It freezes an enemy in the air for a time so you can shoot at it immobilized. I got the 100 Phase Locks after getting to level 7 and reaching Sanctuary in the story. Mark jumped in my game at one point to help me with a mini-boss, but he got bored waiting for me to phase lock enemies and left to play solo. I had to tell him to wait a lot because his level 50 Gunzerker was just slaughtering everything in sight.

Liar's Berg. First epic view in Borderlands 2

Then I leveled up a Gunzerker solo but didn’t get the 90 seconds of gunzerking achievement even though I tried many times. I got my character up to level 9 and was having some fun playing solo and really taking in the story and environments. There were many areas I barely remembered from our co-op play-through because we ripped through them so fast. I liked fighting in solo play too because the battles were always desperate and challenging. While using my gunzerking skill, I dual wielded fire enhanced pistols; unfortunately, I came to a mission that had lots of fire resistant enemies, so I had to go back to Sanctuary and change up my entire set of weapons to ones with explosive damage.  I’m getting a hang of this elemental damage thing. It seems absolutely essential to winning challenging battles.

And speaking of challenging, Mark and I tried to go up against Terramorphous the Invincible. I changed over to my level 50 Assassin and entered his game but we couldn’t beat it. That thing is crazy hard even with two level 50 players.

A Zoo during the apocalypse, The Creature Slaughter Dome.

Then Mark and I both bought the Creature Slaughter Dome DLC. Mark started the area and I used my level 9 Gunzerker. I just sat in a corner soaking up the shared experience and got two levels as he mopped up the first round of the fight. The creatures scale up to the highest level player in the room, so I was pretty much helpless, all the creatures being level 18 or more because of his level 50 Gunzerker. He got his 90 seconds of Gunzerking achievement, and I realized I could get mine by using the arena during solo play later. The key to getting this 90 seconds of gunzerking is finding some place with a lot of enemies to fight. The Creature Slaughter Dome is the perfect place.

It’s neat how you can change games so quickly in Borderlands 2. You can play solo and then, at a moment’s notice, jump out of your game with no progress lost and join another game. You can even switch characters pretty quickly and change their difficulty modes. Your game world is saved every time you leave it. It all works very smoothly.

Who's Randy Pitchford and how was the beer?

Randy's the head of Gearbox, makers of Borderlands and the beer was pretty good. I hadn't had a beer for like a month or more and it really went down smooth. I liked it.

I'm trying to eat healthy but gaming days always bring out the guilty pleasures.

Every locale has their specialty. Mine's cheesesteaks, what's yours?

Mexican food is pretty good here.

That cheesesteak looks good.

I've been told a true cheesesteak is one with sliced steak not chopped steak like the ones I always eat. Thing is, the only place that makes a sliced steak cheesesteak are the places in Philly. Out here in the burbs, only 15 minutes outside the city, it's always chopped steak. I've been to Gino's Steaks for the "real deal" and I still prefer the chopped. To heck with these purists.

I love a good IPA. I have seen Terrapin beer before, I need to give it a try.

The Siren is a blast to play with. The Mechromancer is my favorite although in a lopsided tie with the Siren. Next is a tie between the Zerker and the Comando. Last is Zero and Krieg. Admittedly Krieg the spyco is pretty fun to play as but he is very quirky.I ve only got him to about lv38.

The trick to Terramo is two pieces of equipment, a Bee shield and a Conference Call shotgun. Even in TVHM this should do the trick . I have solo'd him this way several times.

I liked the Commando because I just set up my turret and watched it do my work for me. Ah yes, armchair gaming at its best.

I'm mulling over whether to get the DLC that gives you the Psycho and Mechromancer. There's no achievement for using them, but they might be fun anyway.

They each have their own set of achievements though. They have very unique playstyles which keeps things interesting. The mechromancer has her own personal attack robot, and she can get a crazy boost to gun power with her Anarchy skill. The Psyco is a melee geared beast, he can survive near death better than any other class and actually use Fight for your life  like a speacial attack. They are both worth getting in my opinion. The commando is pretty cool, I have mine built to drop two turrets and I can stick them on walls to create pinch points.

that sounds like a cool game mechainc. I wonder if more games will try to mimic such in the future. I wouldn't mind playing a solo then going to a multiplayer game in one fluid motion. That would've made gaming on Halo, and PSO alot more easier to manuvear.

I hope others copy this ability to jump around from single to multi to various difficulty modes as easily as Borderlands 2 does. The other day I went from co-op in one difficulty mode, to single player in a different mode, then to a new character. No matter where you leave the game, it saves all your progress without fail. I love that.
