burgertime

BurgerTime was a surprise to me. I’ve played it before, but I didn’t think it would be as fun as it turned out to be. It’s a fixed screen platform game where you, Peter Pepper, climb ladders and run along platforms being chased by Mr. Hot Dog, Mr. Pickle or Mr. Egg. You have to run across the burger toppings to make them fall down one level and keep doing that ‘til the burgers are complete at the bottom. You have a pepper shaker to freeze enemies and if you do this on a topping and make the enemy fall with I, you get more points and the topping falls a lot farther. You can also squash enemies by dropping toppings on them too. You gain points by releasing toppings, dispatching enemies, and completing burgers, and food items appear in the middle that replenish your pepper shots.

This game was surprisingly fun and I got all excited and yelled at each Mr. Pickle crushing, Mr. Hot Dog peppering, and burger finishing. I was laughing too because it was funny playing this simple game and having fun while my friend played Borderlands 2 just to the left of me. I think I embellished my excitement a little just to troll him, but it was a genuinely fun game.

I played the spin-off to this game, Peter Pepper’s Ice Cream Factory on this collection too, but didn’t like it much.

You can get BurgerTime on the Wii’s Virtual Console or the Game Boy version BurgerTime Deluxe on the 3DS Virtual Console. There’s a phone version called BurgerTime Delight, and I just noticed there was a modern update of the game on all the console’s download services and PC called BurgerTime World Tour. That one goes on my wishlist to try sometime.

I had played the NES version of Burguer Time, but I kinda remember not enjoying it that much because of the movement and how long the levels could take.

Game looks fun. Oddly enough, both it and Alex's avatar reminded me of this:

That was amazing! Sonic's a dick. LOL

For some reason I kinda liked the slower pace of the game.

Burgertime is underrated.  Good classic arcade play.  Might not last for hours, but it's fun, and is as good as Frogger or Asteroids or any of those old classics.  Quite forgotten these days.

It's supposed to have six screens but all the videos I've seen only show three. I wonder what's up with that. I guess I better get good at it to find out for myself.

BurgerTime is a very challenging game. Learning the patterns of the enemies or using techniques to get all the baddies bunched up together is your key to high scores.

I played the ColecoVision version of BurgerTime quite often. It's an excellent arcade translation. Originally, Mattel was planning to release games on the ColecoVision in a similar manner as they did on the Atari 2600. However, Mattel left the console market during the crash and gave Coleco the finished versions of BurgerTime and Bump 'n Jump to release for them.

Also, try the NES version. It's a very difficult version of the game. Right away, 6 enemies are after you and the game is very fast. You will be lucky to pass the third screen in this version.

Interesting. I caught a video on youtube where someone was explaining a very specific pattern... wait... here it is:

It amazes me how much thought some players give to these games.

I love BurgerTime!  As a kid, I would make my own chef hat and pepper shaker out of paper cutouts and play prettend BurgerTime.  Yeah this was back when kids used their imagination sometimes. :)

Did you know that in Japan, this game was originally called just "Hamburger?"  That's why the chef in the game has an H on his hat.

In Japan there's also a game called Super BurgerTime.  Look it up, it's really weird.

Yeah, Peter Pepper's Ice Cream Parlor isn't very good.  They also planned to make a third game called Peter Pepper's PizzaTime, but that never came out.

I reviewed BurgerTime World Tour.  It's OK, but really the best update is BurgerTime Deluxe on the Game Boy.  Just stay away from The Flinstones: BurgerTime in Bedrock.  It's a Game Boy Color reworked version of Deluxe, except it sucks.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd put a YouTube link up to one of the old BurgerTime commercials.  The hot dog peeks through the drive thru window and says, WE'RE CLOSED NOW!

Man I could talk about BurgerTime all day.  It was one of the few arcade games to pull me away from Pac-Man as a kid in the 80's.  But I'll stop rambling now!  --Cary

F'n A this commercial is wow! They show an Intellivision II console. My friend has one of those.

"We're closed now!"

Burger Time is a fun game.  My kids and I played it for a bit last year.

I think I must've played it in the arcade back in the day but maybe not. It was weird how certain games never made it to my area. Lots of the Konami games I never saw until I saw them on Xbox 360's Game Room.

Played a little BurgerTime when I was younger, wasn't that good at it at the time but I think I could do better now.

I wasn't into it too much at the time. I think there were games with more interesting graphics that I went to instead.

I remember playing this game, but I wasn't very good at it. I should give it another try on the 3DS

The handhelds are a good place for all of this arcade game stuff.

Now i remember this game. I use to play it a my area pizza hunt when I had the chance. I remember how a teenager told me to take it easy on the joystick. At that time I thoguht if I slammed on the joystick has hard as I could, I could make the chef run faster in the game.

How silly I was back in my youth!

Seems like a logical assumption. Push harder, run faster. Why not.

I don't remember where or when I played the arcade cabinet, but I'm sure I did at least once.
