Indiana Jones and the Azran Legacy. . . No wait. It’s Prof. Layton.

Both Indy and Layton are professors, but one fights with his fists outside of class and the other prefers a battle of wits; one wields a whip and gun and the other a brain. I think I wanted Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy to be more like an Indiana Jones graphic adventure like the LucasArts games.

What I like about Prof. Layton, though, is the music, the visuals, the exploration of each screen with the stylus, and the story. The puzzles, well. . . they just drive me nuts. Thankfully there are plenty of hint coins to be had to help me get through them because some of them are darn frustrating. Most of them didn’t give me any trouble though, so I’m not complaining. . . too much.

But I really want an adventure game for 3DS now. Let’s look at some from the adventure genre list on allgame.com going in reverse chronological order.

There’s the upcoming Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney which doesn’t have a release date yet in NA even though it’s been released everywhere else. What up with that?

There’s Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destines on the 3DS eShop. That looks interesting.

There’s Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi which is like a choose-your-own-adventure graphic novel.

There’s Attack of the Friday Monsters: A Tokyo Tale on the eShop. Ah cool! It is a Level-5 game about Japanese kids and their fascination with giant monsters and robots! I’m all over this one!

There’s Starship Damrey which is a horror graphic adventure in space on 3DS eShop. Very cool.

There’s Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward, the sequel to 999 on DS. It’s a horror puzzler where you have to solve puzzles or be killed. Talk about stress inducing, but I like it.

There’s Spirit Camera: The Cursed MemoirThis is a horror game utilizing the 3DS camera to bring real world images into the game. It seems like just an AR demonstration game, but maybe there’s more to it than that. You know. . .  I still haven’t used the AR cards that came with my 3DS.

There’s Resident Evil: Revelations. It seems like an third-person survival horror game and less a pure adventure, but looks cool nonetheless.

Then there’s the Prof. Layton copycat Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights. Despite it being so derivative, I think it looks fun.

I added all of these to my wishlist on backloggery. There were a few others on allgame.com but they had pretty lousy reviews. I avoided anything that had less than three out of five stars.

I tried one of them once. It didn't grab me, but I'll try one again. i'm definitely getting on the Prof. Layon vs Phoenix Wright game when that comes to NA.

I still need to play my copy of the first game after I traded Miles Edgeworth in for that, some store credit, and Okamiden with store credit discount.

I've finished all the DS Laytons except for Curious Village. I put a lot of hours into that game and for no particular reason just quit.

I still have Miracle Mask to play and then I'll pick up Azran.

I find puzzle solving relaxing but what to you expect from an IT guy. :D

For some reason, puzzles just raise my anxiety. I feel like every one is timed, and if I can't figure it out, I'll be stuck in the game. I feel it the moment that red exclamation mark appears on a selected object or character, then I think to myself, "oh no, not another one". I think school did this to me.

I've really slowed down in finishing up Azran Legacy because I have two lecture series I'm watching that's taking up all my after-work time.

I didn't really like the Prof. Layton puzzles because they reminded me too much of math homework, and I HATE math.

I am really looking forward to the Prof. Layton vs. Phoenix Wright game, though.  But not so much the Layton parts.:)

You should definitely try more Phoenix Wright games, they were my favorite game series on the DS.

I reviewed Attack of the Friday Monsters.  It's very charming, especially if you like old Godzilla movies, but the game is very short.

The Prof. Layton cartoon movie is really good, though.  You would like it.

Those puzzles bring up my exam anxieties.

I'll give ol' Phoenix Wright another shot sometime soon.

I'm really excited to play Attack of the Friday Monsters, Level-5, those graphics, a story about giant monsters, I can't wait.

Here in Belgium and Europe for that matter Prof. Layton vs Phoenix Wright was also released. I just saw a review on a local video game magazine.

Yea, it's out there. I don't see a release date for NA. I imagine it will be soon though.

I've been wanting to try out both the Prof. Layton games and Phoenix Wright, I'm wondering why their crossover game hasn't been released here either.

Yea, and no release date set either. What up with that?

I want the two survival horror titles that you mentioned. Still debating on either getting Spirit Camera first or Starship Damrey.

I really want to play Attack of the Friday Monsters. Right now though, I'm focusing on 2014 titles. I just made a list and there's plenty to get to already. Nothing on handheld though. . . hum. . . I'll have to go back to 2013 for those.
