Yesterday – Forgot to mention I saw Godzilla in IMAX 3D. That enormous IMAX screen really does envelop you in the movie. I found myself looking around within the screen like I was at a real place. The movie was fine. I was hoping for more of a wacky Pacific Rim style, but it was pretty true to the formula of those old Japanese monster movies. I enjoyed it.
The Early Morning Hours – Had a dream about working in a company that had just spent its first earnings of $10,000 on a huge load of video games, I guess, to start some kind of retro store. I thought it was a bad idea but looked through the enormous pile of games anyway and saw lots of Mega Man games on PS1. Then I looked through all the N64 games and didn’t notice any valuable ones. I thought, “This company has bought a bunch of common games, how are we going to make money off this stuff?” Weird right?
11:45 am – Continued playing Taito Legends 2 on PS2 at my friend’s place. Three games were vertically scrolling shooters where I couldn’t make the screen show them in the original format. So they were all stretched out in 16:9 and became unpleasant to play with such a smooshed play field. It made it hard to avoid anything. The three games were: Gekirindan, Grid Seeker and Gun Frontier.
"Welcome my feathered friend. Peck their eyes out!"
Then I played Growl which is another brawler where you save the animals from poachers. When you release an animal, it then fights for you, which is really neat. Thing is, I was getting mobbed by enemies and soon got really frustrated. Last time I played it, I must’ve put it on easy mode or something, because I don’t remember it being like this. I beat it last time I played.
Hat Trick Hero is a soccer game and it plays fine. Soccer’s not too interesting to me so onward I went.
Insector X is a side scrolling 2D shooter with a buggy theme. Lovely art style. Reminds me of TwinBee which is similar but a vertically scrolling shooter. I wasn’t in the mood to be blasted from all sides with bugs, so I moved on.
Kiki KaiKai is like Front Line where you move vertically and shoot at enemies on the ground. You are a Shinto Shrine Maiden who has to tame spirits gone amok. I hated the fact that the move and shooting controls were on the same stick or d-pad. I kept thinking this would be much better as a twin-stick shooter where you move with one stick and shoot with the other.
"Kamehameha! Oops."
Kuri Kinton is a side scrolling 2D fighter where you are a character that reminds me of other anime kids dressed for a martial arts match like Naruto or Goku from DBZ. You even have a ranged attack that looks like a Street Fighter hadoken or Goku’s kamayamaya. It was an ok fighting game. I didn’t stick with it too long.
