My Very Own Panzerhund

I want my very own Panzerhund. A Kampfhund would do nicely as well, but a Panzerhund would be the best. . . I found out that the word "panzer" means armored, so the Panzerhunds in Wolfenstein: New Order are the big all metal ones. "kampf" means fight or struggle, so kampfhund means fighting dog. They are the partially armored real dogs in the game. The one's you have to fight most often. Oh yeah, and then there's swinehund which just means pig dogs. There are no pig dogs in the game, you just get called that frequently by the Nazi soldiers. German lesson over. Now to how I played Wolfenstein the last two days.

                      ph

"Awe, come here panzerhund. Come on. . . Ah! Get it off! Get it off!"

I finished the collectibles and unlocked all the extra modes by solving the enigma codes Saturday afternoon.

Then on Sunday, I started Uber mode and found it not too bad. You just can't take too much direct fire. I got several chapters in before I started to realize I probably wouldn't have time before Enemy Front comes out to finish it. I was also working on the various challenges that give you perks. Then I figured I could play 999 Mode with infinite ammo and have an easier time with a particular challenge of taking down 3 enemies while continuously shooting two weapons at once. After a while I began to realize that perks are not affected in the special modes. BULLOCKS!

So I popped out of that mode and started a new game. Why? I don't know, probably because I'm stupid, or that I kept forgetting about the Chapters menu option which lets you jump into any chapter for replay. I quickly discovered that starting a new game erases all level progress, all perk stats, and any health of armor upgrades you might have had. So basically this game has one save file. CHESSE AND CRACKERS!!! It didn't erase collectibles or any story related things like voice recordings though. Still, I was pissed and had to start the whole perk stat train up again and try and remember where those health and armor upgrades were. GRRR.

This was now my third play of the game and was kinda annoyed at all the cutscenes but found myself watching them again anyway. They're all really good. You really come to like the characters and want to watch the story elements over again. Still, I was going for shooting stats and skipped most of the cut scenes. I had to wait a lot though, and some you can't skip. I was cursing myself for starting a new game, I could've avoided some of the cut scene heavy chapters for ones with more gameplay. PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY!!!

Overall, even on this thrid play, I was not at all getting bored. I discovered little things I hadn't noticed before and had a lot of fun trying out different strategys as the stat list required like: sliding kills, dual wield multiple kills, a whole host of stealth kills of every variety (the last one I was working on when I had to stop for the night was the "stealth kill a leader with a grenade), and a LaserKraftWerk kill that requires you to use an entire charge with no misses.

I'll be at it again tomorrow (or later today now) after I watch a little of MS's pre-E3 briefing at 12:30pm. I'll be posting again later that night with more stories of hunds, panzer or otherwise.

The game is uber good! Cool I love the Panzerhound face stab animations. So cool!

You mean those armor plated German Shepards that jump up on you and chomp on your face? Those be the Kampfhunds and the animation for them is stunning, and scary. My friend loves dogs and didn't like killing them, but when they are up in your face like that trying to tear out your throat like a goram werewolf, I gotta go all face stabby to survive.

I took German in high school and college.  I can't remember as much now, but most phrases used in video games I know.

I turned off the subtitles for my first playthrough so they wouldn't distract me, but that left me pretty clueless as to what was going on. I noticed on my second play that I could set the subtitles to only come up for foreign languages, so I did that and finally got to know what was being said. There's a lot of German and some Polish in the game. Not just phrases either, but extended dialog that, once I put on subtitles, I realized added a lot to the experience. I wish I could at least read the many many posters on the walls. Thankfully, the newspaper articles you come across are translated for you right next to the full German version. You could really test your knowledge of German in this game for sure.

Back when i took German in high school was when the ORIGINAL Wolfenstein came out.  We thought we were all hot stuff that we knew what "Mein Leben!" meant when you shot someone.

Ha! I forgot about that. Been a while since I played the original; although, in Wolfenstien: New Order. . . never mind. Forget I said anything.

Hey I learned what Panzer means. Nice. This reminds me of watching the Military Channel before bed when the topic was Porsche designing super sized tanks for the German Military.

Going back to the game, hot damn I would be pissed if I lost a game save like that.

I always thought Panzer meant "attack" but was surprised to find out it was "armored" or just a word for "tank".

I must've been thinking as if it was Borderlands 2 where you can start a new campaign and all previous ones are still saved. The single save in Wolfenstein is one of my very few complaints with the game. Those characters and situations are still in my head days later, "What are you people doing in there." said by Deathshead still creeps me out.

I've read a lot of good things about this game, really makes me want to play it even though usually I'm not into stuff like it.

In replaying it, I'm appreciating it even more. There's so many little touches I didn't notice the first time through. It's just pure quality. Sometimes if you pause in front of a picture or display, BJ will make a comment to himself. Sometimes it's really funny.

Also, after playing Enemy Front (another Nazi shooting FPS) and experiencing its imprecise controls, going back to Wolfenstein: New Order was so satisfying. The guns feel powerful and easy to control right away. It was like going from a hard wooden chair to a barcalounger. Ahhh, pure comfort.

Hope you got your fill of Wolfenstein before you quit. I made that same mistake too after I tried a unlocked mode of play. Though Im' sure mostly would've been annoyed by this, I myself saw this as another grand opportunity to gun down more nazi pigdogs!

As for dogs I make sure to go out of my way to kill those demon dogs. Can't think of any other anime that deserves the knive to the head or the gernade up the nose!

I'm going to go back to it probably this coming weekend. I have very little left to do in both Valiant Hearts and Enemy Front and then I attempt to get farther in Uber mode. I'd like to try out all four of the special modes too. One of them gives you only one life. That kinda makes it like an arcade game. I'm curious to see how far I can get on just one life. I also want to run around in 999 Mode with unlimited dual rocket launchers and paint the walls. So I'm not done yet with Wolfenstein.
