Thinking about the Grim Fandango Remaster on PS4

The remastered version of Grim Fandango will be released for PS4, Vita and PC sometime soon. I think it could be this fall or early next year because the remaster was mentioned in 2013 when Disney acquired LucasArts. That seems to me plenty of time to get it done by late 2014 or early 2015. I'm hoping anyway.

Grim Fandango is a 1998 LucasArts adventure game led in development by Tim Schafer that takes as its inspiration the Mexican holiday of The Day of the Dead and film noir. It's notable as being one of the first generation of puzzle/adventure games made with a 3D world with interactive environments. It's art style is captivating and the music is, from what I've been told, one of the best in gaming.

I'm really excited to play this on the big screen, so I am strongly thinking of using this as a good excuse to get a PS4; but I wouldn't get it just for this game, but for Killzone: Shadowfall and I'm sure many other exclusives to come. The PS4 looks like a great system to have and Sony's support of Indie games has me very excited for what might be released on that platform. That they would also support a classic niche rerelease like this makes me very hopeful for the future of the system.

I'm just glad that there will be a PC version.

Yea, and fully remastered. I hope more stuff comes out of the LucasArts vault now that Disney has it.

I never tried that game back in the day, but I always wanted to.  Hopefully they'll port it to other systems, as I do no have a PS4.

If you want to play another game that has Day of the Dead themes in it, I'm reviewing a game right now called Guacamelee: Super Ultra Championship Edition that has that stuff in it.

I got Gaucamele for free for Xbox One on my account. I'll have it when I get the system next year sometime.

I'm hoping Grim Fandango might make it to Xbox 360.

One of these days I'll play Grim Fandango.

I want to play all those adventure games Tim Schafer was involved in. I just need the time. I hope Day of the Tentacle will be next.

I never got to play Grim Fandango when it first came out.  I'm usually game for almost anything Schafer, so hopefully I'll get in on this iteration of the game.

Yea, I'm so glad it's coming to consoles, any console, because I'm a bit PC shy right now.

my current PC is utter shit, but it'll run FTL and Hearthstone....guess I can't complain too much eh?

I'm always see that game in gaming mags back in the late 90's. Never had my own computer until 2003, so it eventually went over my head.

I had a pretty basic computer that I played FPS games on in the 90's. I didn't even know there was other games I could play aside from Doom, Quake, Heretic, and Shadow Warrior. . . and Duke Nukem. . . oh yea and Warcraft I and II. Loved those. Adventure games never really entered my world. I'm interested now though.

I'm looking forward to playing it again. I still have my original cd-rom of it (somewhere), but I doubt it would work on a modern computer.  Although it's not my favorite classic adventure game (that would probably be Day of the Tentacle or one of the Space Quests), I still really enjoyed it.  And it's probably one of the most accessible for modern console players.

I hope those others get a remaster as well. I want to play them.

I never played it when it first came out on PSP and to be honest, it didn't really capture my attention, but I'd be willing to give anything Tim Schafer does a shot. I say that despite not having played any of his games, yet I own two of them just cause I like what I think they'll be. Hmm...

I've played Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. I have all those small games of his I still haven't played yet like Stacking, Costume Quest and Iron Brigade (well, I played Iron Brigade), and I always wanted to play those Monkey Island games. There's a lot I still want to play of his. Time, time, time.

Grim Fandango is great and I'm glad they are redoing the PC version. The original doesn't play nicely on modern PCs and requires patching.

I will buy the PC version since I don't have the other platforms.

I can't stand that games become unplayable because of updates of operating systems.

I love point and click adventure games and Tim Schafer is awesome. I haven't tried this game yet but I'll probably end up getting it on a steam sale.

KnightDriver

Yea, Steam is so great. I gotta get over there a try sometime to see if my laptop can handle it. Soon.

I'm holding out for a PS4 when SquareEnix releases FFVII HD.

....

What? A man can dream can't he?

I've been thinking I shouldn't get a PS4 just for a downloadable game, so maybe something else will make it a necessity like the way Crackdown has me fully committed to an Xbox One when the game comes out.

I don't think I ever played this game, but if it's coming to Vita, I will give it a shot. Having new Vita content is always good.

KnightDriver

Yea and they just put up the Another World remaster on Vita as well. I'm debating whether to pick up Grim Fandango on Vita and just wait to get a PS4 until something really major appears that I want, like another Valkyria Chronicles.
