Reaper of Souls almost makes up for all the problems with D3. Adventure mode makes the campaign obsolete in my eyes. Way more fun and satisfying.
Back to School? Bah! Back to Gaming.

I've already seen a back-to-school sale advertisment and that's a sign that August is near. It seems like the holiday season has begun with all the titles coming out in August. Here are a bunch I'm considering for my preorder.
Wasteland 2 [PC] August sometime. This looks like a really deep turn-based strategy game set in some kind of future where society has collapsed. It reminds me of the Jagged Edge games. If I can get myself into PC gaming, I'd love to give this a try.
Sacred 3 [PC, PS3, X360] Aug. 5th. A Diablo-like action RPG. It looks pretty awesome.
Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed [Vita, PS3] Aug. 6th. Wow! This is a weird one. It's a third-person action adventure game set in famous Japanese shopping district Akihabara. Your task is to find the bloodsucking demons inhabiting human form. Then you fight them by stripping off their clothes to expose them to sunlight. Kinky.
Risen 3: Titan Lords [PC, PS3, X360] Aug 12th. I bought RIsen 2: Dark Waters day-one a few years ago and played Risen 1 as well that year. Both kicked my stupid butt, but entertained me mightily. This third game looks like more German-style piratey third-person RPG action. I'm really excited to be beaten to a bloody pulp by another difficult open world adventure. This video below was the only one I could find with actual gameplay. Most are just CG trailers. I wish I knew German because the narrator for this walkthrough of the beginning of the game sounds really funny. I just jumped around in this vid to see gameplay footage.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition [X1, X360, PS4, PS3] Aug. 19th. I've been wanting to play Diablo III since it came out on PC two years ago. This seems like the perfect time to jump on for a console gamer like myself. The game has been fine tuned for consoles and now contains all the DLC, all for $40. I'm excited to play this co-op with a buddy of mine and check out Adventure mode where you hunt for bounties and fight in Nephalem Rift dungeons. I may pick up two copies.
Tales of Xillia 2 [PS3] Aug. 19th. I haven't played any of the Tales games yet, although I may be playing Tales of Symphonia Chronicles soon. My main interest in these kinds of RPGs is "what is the battle system like". Well, at 2:40 of this video, you get to see some it for Tales of Xillia 2 and it's pure action, which is not my first choice, but can be good. I like that it's not full of exploding effects. That kind of distraction really bothers me like the battles in Final Fantasy XII. They were too busy for me visually. I love the cell shaded look of Tales of Xillia 2 and the cinematic trailer is very dramatic and emotional.
A side note: Both Disgaea 4 and Hyperdimension Neptunia are coming to Vita in August with various improvements. I'm excited to add some more titles to my very slim Vita library at the moment. These kinds of RPGs are just what I want on a handheld device.
And those are what I'm looking at. What am I going to preorder? Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition. Why? A). co-op. B). $40. C). It's frickin' Diablo and it's ultimately evil!
