hey be sure to post some pics!
That sucks about your PSP. That whole UMD thing was always so fragile.

This weekend I'm off to Corolla on the Outer Banks of North Carolina for a whole week. I rarely get a vacation away from work, but when offered one by family members, I always accept. I'm going with my sister's family and my mom. I'll have to start packing soon but, before clothes or anything else, I'll need to figure out what games to bring.
I will have access to a TV, but console video gaming isn't a thing with my sister's family, just tablet and phone gaming, so I won't be bringing a console. I think I'll bring some of my handhelds and work on several games as part of my Nostalgic Vacation series that I started a few months back and have neglected because of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
I just got this spin move last time I played Ys: The Oath in Felghana
The one I'm working on now for 1992 is action RPG Ys III on SNES, or more spefically, the remake, Ys: The Oath in Felghana, on PSP. I'm having some trouble with the UMD door on my PSP. It seems loose, and every time I slightly touch it, the game gives me a screen covering menu asking me if I want to quit the game. The music stops as the system tries to read the jogged disc, and if I'm at a load screen, it takes much longer to load. This is all very annoying, especially since I know I bought this system new. I don't know if this is just a flaw in the system itself or if I busted it somehow carrying it around in my backpack like I do everyday. If so, this will be the second PSP I've busted (last time I cracked the screen).
Anyway, I'm currently at this fire dragon boss trying to get past it. I've come really close, so a few more tries should do it. I really dread bosses in this game. They're tough and you have to lose a few times before you figure out the right approach. It really slows the pace of the game and takes away from my favorite part - exploration.
Free! Free to explore!
A game that should give me my exploration fix in spades is my pick for Nostalgic Vacation 1993, adventure game Out of this World for SNES. I'll be playing the remake called Another World on Vita. I can't wait to get into this one. The graphics look amazing and will look great on the Vita. All I have to do is purchase it before I leave. It'll be my first digital purchase on the system.
The last game I'll take will be my pick for Nostalgic Vacation 1994, RPG Breath of Fire on SNES. I'll be playing the Game Boy Advance version on my DS lite. Man, I've waited a long time to finally play this game. I hope there's time to get to it.
A few non-game-related-fun-stuff I'll be bringing are my books: 100 Greatest Console Video Games: 1977-1987 and Company Commander. I'm hoping to finish both by week's end so I can choose my next graphic novel to read (I rotate text novels with graphics novels now). And I'll be bringing my DSLR camera, a Nikon D70s with a few lenses. This could be the last time I get to go to my mom's beach house before it gets sold, so I'm going to take a lot of pictures.
I will.
It's like, during a boss battle, when you're flailing away at buttons, the whole screen goes grey with a message saying, "do you want to quit?", and I scream "NO!" as I quickly click it away. Then it happens several times. I have to very carefully watch my fingers on the back of the PSP.
I looked up Ys III on SNES and it's very different from the graphics of the PSP remake. I think it's even a 2D side scroller whereas the PSP remake is a isometric view. I kinda feel like I'm not getting the true retro experience. I'm tempted to go find the SNES cart, but I know it'll be pricey, so I probably won't.
Yes, it came to the SNES in '93 but it was on PC first in '91. The one I'm playing is the 20th Anniversary edition out on everything except Xbox 360. It was $7.99 on PSN for Vita.
It'll be fun. I already feel a little pepped up thinking I won't have to work for 10 days straight.
I'd stil bring a console if only to show the family that there is more to life than *gasp/shock* tablet and mobile gaming....
sound like winners for games to play. Don't forget to watch this year's online MST3K turkey marathon during thanksgiving if you haven't planned on it!
My bro-in-law and sister are a bit strict on the video gaming. I did consider bringing one of my flashback consoles, or even my Wii with some kid friendly games. I'm also a bit nervous about showing too much of my gamer side. It's not an "adult" thing to do. We'll probably play a board game at some point though.
If it was my other sister's family though. All bets would be off, and I'd be as gamer as I want to be. But I rarely see them.
Awe cool! I didn't know MST3K was doing that. I'll have to check it out if I get a break from family stuff.
Love Breath of Fire! I seriously just started playing that again on my SNES! It started due to me jamming out to the sountrack to work one day lol.
I still need to play Ys: The Oath in Felghana I have had it in my posession for the longest time and never once picked it up to play. I think I shall have to now.
