On the VG Hunt Again

Since I'm thinking of taking a break from Borderlands, I put together a short list of games I'd like to play next. I chose about twelve, then went about seeing if I had them all in my collection. I didn't and so I went out today to my local retro game store, Jay St. Video Games, in the mall and then hit a Gamestop there too. The result is as you see below.

             bs

That's Baseball Stars for the NES ($15), Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side on Sega CD ($5), and Populous DS ($1). My only issue is that I don't have a Sega CD console and I think my friend, who had one, doesn't anymore. But I noticed that I have the previous game in the series, just titled Eternal Champions, on my Genesis Flashback console. The Sega CD game just has some more playable characters from what I've read. I'm glad to have it though, because I will have a Sega CD sometime.

I'm going out tomorrow to the other branch of Jay St. Video Games in a different mall to see what I can find. I still have several titles on my list I need for a wide variety of systems. I love variety in my gaming. I love looking for games on everything from NES to Dreamcast to Xbox 360 and then playing them all. That's my thing. No more 100 hour plus games. I think I'll set my limit for any game at 100 hours. It's kinda when I start getting tired of a particular game world anyway.

I told my little brother tonight I was proud of myself I had gotten 6 hours into Dragon Age.  He was like "I'm at fifty."  Tongue Out

Many of today's games are just too long and meandering.

They really try and monopolize your time so you never leave their game and continue to pay them money for DLC and the like. At some point, I just gotta move on.

There are still a few NES games I would like to get.  I should get on that.

I'm so tempted to go NES crazy, but I have to pace myself. I'm so glad there is this retromania going on, and I now have two great retro stores to shop at. I was missing that so bad since the flea markets dried up.

I checked out the link to Jay St. Video Games.  I like how neat a spacious it looks in there.

Baseball Stars is a pretty good NES title.  Wish I never sold it.

Jay St. started out with almost no stock and I was worried they would fold quickly, but they grew really fast and now have so much great stuff. In the other store I went to today they had three demo stations set up all with Retron 3's where you can plug in anything and try them out. So frickin' cool!

Baseball Stars isn't on Virtual Console either. I was worried it would be rare and expensive but it wasn't too bad at $15. Can't wait to give it a spin.

I am jealous of Eternal Champions CD. I have the Genesis game and that one is FREAKING HARD. The boss battle is nuts. I wish my Sega CD still worked. Somewhere between SDSU and home it stopped working.

I'm not much of a fighting game fan, but I love the graphics in some of them, and I'll give this one my best shot so I can see as much of it as I can. Getting a Sega CD may be a bit tricky though. I used to have one, but I remember there were a few different kinds. I wish the Saturn had backwards capability with Sega CD games. That would solve my problem really quickly.

The baseball game we had for the NES was Baseball Simulator 1000. I always thought we had the wrong game when we popped it in, cause the cover made it look like it should have been set in space.

Weird! There are Ultra Teams with ultra players that can make a Tremor Hit creating an earthquake on the field, an Iron Ball pitch where the ball becomes a cannon ball, and ultra fielders who can Super Jump to catch home run balls. That says Space Baseball to me.

Retro stores are awesome! I'm spoiled for choice in my area - Bull Moose music is a Maine-owned chain with stores all over the state and their retro games are very reasonably priced. Then there are several little indy stores, my favorites of which are Monster Box Fun Emporium in Portland that shares space with a really great comics store, and The Game Box in Topsham (I took SanAndreas there when he visited last summer).

That sounds great! I've always wanted to live in Maine. Laughing

Well come visit! Didn't I read that your former band mate moved up here? San Andreas had a good time when he visited.

My friend, and bandmate, Cory grew up on an island. I think it was Cousins Island just East of Yarmouth, but I may be wrong. I visited him there for his wedding a long time ago now. He and my sister went to Bates College in Lewiston, and I almost went to Bowdoin in Brunswick. It kinda haunts me that I missed that oportunity. I've biked from New Hampshire to Portland, Maine in order to take the ferry to Nova Scotia where I did a tour there. I really love the shoreline of Maine. I want to visit Acadia N.P. sometime and do some photography. It'd be cool to move there if I could find a job first. Maine has always been in the back of my mind. My friend Cory is now in a different part of Maine teaching Chemisty. I forget just where but I think it was in the western part of the state.

Nice score! too bad the eternal champions was disc only. I've wanted to try that game since I got the original on the genesis. Plus i need more excuses to break out my SEga CD!

I got the Genesis version later. It'll be easier to play that then put together a Sega CD console again.
