It's Our Anniversary

Well January 1, 2015 makes 4 years that The Wife and I  have been married.  And this year, she got me a Wii U system which came bundled with Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo Land, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, and Super Smash Bros. Wii U!  She purchased it back in November when Best Buy offered it as a Black Friday deal for $360.  Wow...thoughtful and frugal.  What a woman!

Actually, I knew she was getting me the Wii U-- we both just told each other what we wanted for our anniversary.  She doesn’t pressure me to surprise her-- she’s good like that, LOL!  Neither one of us expected the sweet bundle though.  It was a deal too good to pass up.  But even more surprise is the fact that she’s been playing Super Mario World 3D with me all this week!  So far, we’ve completed 4 worlds together, working on the 5th now.

It’s pretty incredible that we’re playing this game together because she almost never plays video games with me.  Not for more than 10 minutes at that.  But over the past 3 nights, we’ve spent anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour just plugging away at the game.  It’s interesting playing this with her because she has to be re-taught the concept of holding the “run” button to get a good momentum going while navigating the ground and jumping.  Sometimes during the trickier platforming section, she’ll either get me to carry her across, or just stand still until I across the gaps and the game automatically warps her to my position.  I’ve never felt so useful in my entire marriage.  LOL!

The Wife loves to play as Princess Peach thanks to her ability to float in mid-air briefly.  It’s saved her bacon on quite a few occasions when nearly missing the ledge after a leap.  I love the new Cat Suit abilities and the cat wheel further levels other parts of the stage that would be otherwise unreachable.  And we both love the Tanooki Suit..especially the invincible one you get if you keep dying in a stage.  Overall, the game itself is beautiful and very fun-- especially the Bowser castles.

I’m very impressed with the game and think it’s a great start to being a Wii U owner.  Best of all, I get to spend some quality game time with The Wife-- something I’ve been wanting for quite some time and I’m very grateful for.  Thanks hon.  You’re the best!

Dude, I owe you many thanks for pointing that out just at the right time.  I checked Best buy online a few hours after we ordered the system, and it sold out.  I felt so lucky!

Wii U buddies! Okay, mine was a Christmas present, but it's so timed we got each other a Wii U at the tail end of the year.

What a great anniversary gift. I love the Wii U. Mine was a birthday gift two years ago, and so far it's gotten the most playtime from me out of any 8th-gen system, handheld or console.

My NNID is SanAndreasX, BTW. Just sayin'.

The family that games together stays together. I am still torn between a Wii U, Xbox One, PS4 myself.

Happy Anniversary!  In Mario 3-D World, I always played as Toad.  It was more of a single player expereince with me because no woman in their right mind would marry me. :)  Ha ha!  If you like the Captain Toad levels in Mario 3-D World, you know they just made a whole game out of it.  Definitely a "Cary" kind of game, too!  Check out my GOTY blog for some Wii U ideas for your future, and soon I'll have a blog about games I'm looking forward to in 2015, and many of them are Wii U titles!  --Cary

I love using Toad for challenge portions where I haveto run quickly to gain the green star.  Toad's awesome.  I haven't been able to play Captain toad mini games yet because it's only good for one player and I didn't want to leave The Wife out of the fun.  But I'll go back and try them.

Also, I want to get Captain Toad's standalone game that just came a few weeks ago too!

Excellent choice! I think the Wii U is great and 3D World is a ton of fun. My wife and I played through the whole game together, including the post-game content. Mario Kart 8 is another good one to play together Wink

Sounds very romantic: anniversary, Super Mario 3D World co-op. It's an adult gamer's dream come true. There needs to be a sunset and violins and a slow pull away from the scene at the end of the movie.

Wow...you've really thought this through, haven't you?  LOL!

Naw, my parents are just happy the two of us met.  Believe it or not, my dad especially is totally cool with it if they don't get grandkids from us.  Besides, older has kids, so they're covered.  LOL!

Yesh! turn thy wife into the inner gamer that she's meant to become.

Welcome to the club with "Teh Wives"! may you have more years of gaming goodness.

You know you got a keeper when she buys you a game console. I'm happy for you!

Man... I'm so late on this lol. Happy Anniversary! Did you try DK Tropical Freeze yet? I've been thinking about getting Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D on 3DS. The last DKC game I played is 20 years old.

DKC Returns is excellent. I have the Wii version and the 3DS version in both physical and digital formats. LOL.

The only reason I have the digital on 3DS is because Ninty gave it away free to platinum Nintendo Club members this year and it was the best choice out of the bunch.
