My favorite part of this attempt at 5 million gold in Diablo III is the fountains of gold that spill out of monsters and chests when you equip lots of gear that boost gold drops.
Today I used my level 60 plus 2 Wizard to play Act III on Hell mode with the difficulty cranked to Master V. The goal was to max gold drops. I rearranged my equipment to help boost this. I think I was at over 200% extra gold drops on my equipment, which is really good. But Master V, even with my level 60 character, was absolutely brutal. Demons who use spells and ones that breath fire balls, do it in mass quantities. If I didn't have my equipment tweaked to improve gold over defense, maybe I could've survived a little longer, but that would've defeated the purpose. I kept moving the difficulty down until I could make some progress but, eventually, I had to go below the Master levels, which is kind of pointless, since you don't get as much of a boost to loot at those difficulties. So I went back to my other characters so I could level them up in preparation for the Ultimate Evil Edition and it's "get all six characters to level 70" achievement.
I used my Monk and played on Hard difficulty and constantly worked on boosting his "gold drops from monsters" stat in all his gear. It made me a little vulnerable to damage on Hard difficutly, so eventually, when I got into Act II, I moved it down to Medium. That seemed just right until I started adding gems to my equipment. Because I had super high level gems in my stash from my Wizard character, I was able to put a really good Star Ruby into my weapon. I didn't realize it at first, but that was the reason why the game got pretty easy again until I got deep into Act II. Then the monsters finally started getting more challenging again. I finished the night with my Monk at level 25 and just starting Act III on Normal Mode.
I think this 5 million in gold achievement is going to be tough. I kept track today and after over ten hours of gameplay, I amassed about 100,000 gold. So whether I get this achievement or not is going to be a question. I think, at this point, I may just have fun leveling up the Monk and then the other three character types and just keep the gold boosts high on my equipment. If I get these characters all up to 60 and I'm still short. I don't know, this may be too much work for me. I think at that point I'll just move on the Ultimate Evil Edition and have fun with that. We'll see.
Happy fountains of gold, pixlbits!
