Stuff I did this Sunday:
1. The Delta Force film: This 1986 action film staring Chuck Norris and Lee Marvin was a very, very silly action flick clearly designed to exploit America's fear of airplane hijackings by Islamic terrorists. Chuck Norris has about as much screen presence as a wall. He's just a terrible actor and not even good as an action hero. At least Lee Marvin knows how to stand in a way that says he's in charge. The best actor in the movie was the pilot and he hardly did anything. He had the right expressions and a lot of presence, which was wholly lacking from everyone else in the film.
If you were in it for the explosions, as I was, you had to wait a long, long time for anything really good. Three explosions in the first 2/3rds of the movie before things finally went sideways and Chucky started shooting grenades out the butt-launchers on his motorcycle. Hilarious!
I have a much better plan for this movie. As soon as Chucky sees the hijacked plane getting away, he should throw on the rockets from the RAT system on the Delta Force plane and take off after them. Then he could cut his way into the plane, take care of things kung-fu style, and fly the thing home. End of movie. Thirty minutes of pure action, no bullshit.
2. Super Mario World: Bought this on Virtual Console for Wii for 8 bucks and played it about two hours before getting stuck in the Donut Plain area. This is a really great game! Tons of new moves for Mario and he gets to ride Yoshi. Awesome! Of course, in platformers, I always find one level a real pain and after many repeat plays, get tired of playing the same level over and over. I'll come back to this one though. Really fun.
3. Ticket to Ride: Always play a little of this on XBLA most weekends. Mark and I finally saw another person playing it, friended him, and played three player for several rounds. Fun!
4. Diablo III: I played my Monk for three levels and went for the best equipment instead of trying to maximize gold gathering. That made me much more powerful and I enjoyed it much more. I'm still using my helmet socketed with an emerald to help with gold drops though. That's my one concession to this last 5 million gold achievement. I leveled him one level and then got caught up in the next game.
5. Wheel of Fortune: Mark was playing this on XBLA and encouraging me to get it so we could play online. He got it on a sale for $5, but I had to pay $20 to play with him. It turned out fine because we played it the rest of the night and will probably play more tomorrow. I tried to get a third person into the game, but couldn't get anyone on my friend's list to join. I was annoyed by this game at first, but after a while got the hang of it and liked it.
I was going to play some Super Mario 64 today but it's $10 on Virtual Console and I have the N64 cart. Also, one platformer a week is enough for me; so, I rolled another semi-random game to play tomorrow. It's going to be Super Mario RPG, which I got for free off of Club Nintendo a while back. I can't wait to check it out.
