Olympus Has Fallen: 'Murrca and CGI

Posted on 03/31/2013 at 11:27 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I wasn't even that excited for this one, but my dad wanted to go. Actually, I had to point out to him that Rottentomatoes scores don't "average out" between the two numbers, it's just that critic and audience reactions are two completely separate numbers. But our nearby theater is cheap, so I didn't mind it. Netflix is definitely the better option if you're not that interested though, we ended up craning our necks in the first row, A/C wasn't on, and my mom had even said she didn't want to go cause she felt a bit sick, etc. She also thought the movie was dumb, I thought there was too much CGI, and dad just said he knew it'd be a popcorn action flick so he was ok with that. So was I in the end, but if it were up to me, I'd say this is better as a staple of cable TV.

His personal life may be all kinds of crazy, but I actually did like Tom Cruise in some of his recent movies. He was pretty funny in Rock of Ages, actually.I do think Scientology needs to be sued successfully at some point, though, some of the crap they seem to do is a bit unsavory. I know it's seen as unfair for a non-religious person like me to say that, but I'm not asking for an investigation into the Knights of Columbus who do a lot of good despite my philosophical differences with them; these secretive pyramid scheme people who's previous followers report abuse on the other hand...

Morgan Freeman's actually not always in high-intellect movies, he was in Wanted and had a particularly funny line at the end; he's really good in this, too.

And I wasn't too excited based on trailers, but I wound up liking it for what it was, just a cheesy popcorn flick about 'Murrca taking down some turrorists with a bit too much CG for my tastes. lol

Folk Music Friday #4

Absolutely loved Anna Coogan, just what I needed in my sleepy state. Has a very 90s feel to it for me. I know that could be cause she's doing something that influenced what was popular then as opposed to something necessarily started in that time frame, but since I grew up in that decade with a lot of sounds similar to hers, that's what I associate it with.I actually think the recording is really good for her sound, it's just the people in the background that are annoying.

I started your playlist extremely tired, so decided after that one, I'd check out the ones you mentioned and come back tomorrow.

Bruce Molsky - I'm curious why you didn't think I wouldn't like this guy. I love Celtic music and I really like Brave's music. I'm guessing cause his voice has some country twang, but for me it works with the song, and its melody sounds very Celtic to me, regardless of his voice, which I actually really like. I think there's a certain key or melody in which twang irritates or bores me, but he isn't singing in whatever that is. lol

Elizabeth LaPrelle - Now this one I can see why you think I'd say "nay," as I was really liking the banjo, then when her voice kicked in and had those spikes in volume with her twang, I said "oh dammit." lol But very quickly, I got sucked into its atmosphere, and wound up really liking it, too. The stripped down quality is haunting, sort of reminds me of "Jolene," but much slower, and I love the song "Jolene." Granted, I don't know how often I'd go back to this one, but if those two were supposed to be the worst, I can't wait for tomorrow! er, later today. lol

I wish I'd seen mine as holy relics; I think that Gamecube cover EGM of mine (#145, August 2001) would have appreciated some better care taken. lol

That's nice that you're settled down now though.

I remember reading an article somewhere about how her thighs got larger as time went on. I definitely see it. lol I guess I'll add DOA females as a guilty pleasure in middle school, though I never played those games, only saw the ads in EGM. But those were good ads. And no, the pages of my EGMs are not stuck together, I wasn't that pervy about it, I just like women in swimsuits. lol

^Minus the fact those heels I never noticed before on her boots do no favors. lol

She looks like she'd be mean. Although, I guess she could be considered a sexy mean person? I don't know. lol

And I;m speaking more of Li's SFII model, which really isn't that ridiculous.

It's actually a pretty modest design, I think.
