GLaD 8: Korg DS-10, Music from 50s to Now, TGIF

I can imagine not liking disco, metal, and 2000s pop, those are pretty love/hate genres on their own; and you're on my mom's side with Elvis I guess, and to be honest mine cause I never found him that interesting, but it was an obvious choice for 50s to me.

Glad you enjoyed some of the others though, especially Macklemore (I found the song a pleasant surprise as well), that's the whole point of mixing a bag of music. Wink

My older brother was eleven, I would have been five in 1995, so he was into the grunge and metal, while I would have been into the pop stuff in that year. Didn't really understand the harder stuff's appeal until later. As a teenager in the 2000s, I envy the radio you guys got to enjoy. lol

I have a couple "ok" pieces just from screwing around with DS-10, but I'm not sure I'd share the few tracks I have. Maybe I will in the future.

Ah, I was going to say an old Irish folk song I know of was "Whiskey in the Jar," but stopped typing that when I realized the songs didn't sound that much alike, hence I must have mixed the two titles and not noticed. My mistake.

Very cool; and my jealousy that I can't play it increases. lol

Catching up on PS3: Uncharted 3

I think I'd like the Uncharteds if I had a chance to play them at more than just kiosks, but I always hear the same thing about the combat, especially that it's easy to get killed.

Killzone 2 has some pretty awesome moments; I personally loved what I played of it at a friend's, particularly a certain nail gun weapon. Your character is kind of short though. lol

Yeah, I heard the potential in that clip with Mielke, but I'm so much more comfortable with string instruments like guitar and piano, the number of effects were daunting to me. Some day, I will read the manual long enough that I can understand it well enough to make something I'm really proud of.

Sounds like you're having the day I had Tuesday, or maybe it's the days I was having Fall 2011, when my laptop crapped out in the middle of a FAFSA snafu.

That chews royal colon, indeed. I guess the bright side is you can archive it, but Youtube really only allows two downloads an hour? weak.

"Universal Soldier" - Oh wow. Very interesting song and message. Reminds me a bit of the sarcasm of Bad Religion's "I Want to Conquer the World." I won't state my political opinions here, as it's mostly the music I'm attracted to anyway, but she sounds like an artist I'd be interested in.

"Green Grow the Laurels" - Absolutely love the production on this, the echoing really gives it that dream like feel. The guitar work and vocals certainly don't hurt, either. As I type this, my favorite song so far. I'll have to look up these Fairport Convention folks, I'm impressed.

"Tam Lin" - I don't recall "Battle of Evermore" in particular as a passive Zep fan (mostly I know "Black Dog," "Stairway," "Ramble On," "Immigrant Song" and such), but the fact it sounds very Zeppelin-esque in general is of no surprise, as the first three influences I think of when I think of Zep are Tolkien, blues, and folk. Great song, by the way.

"Highland Widow's Lament" - Good song, not my favorite, as I prefer a bit more musical swelling in my traditional Irish/Scottish/English folk, but a good song nonetheless.

"Mill O'Tiffy's Annie" - I'm three-quarters Irish, so of course I love this song. lol Sad to hear she passed away, though.

"My Son David" - I prefer more instrumentation, but she does have a nice voice, reminds me of my mom's in a way, so I liked this one as well.

Great selection again, Tami!

If You Applied For a Position at PixlBit...

I'd apply to write for you guys if I had any insight to this current generation. Having not adopted any current-gen consoles, handhelds, or even having a game-ready PC, I'm afraid I can't write much up-to-date content for a site like this, but if you guys need a freelance editor or something, let me know. I'm pretty good at finding grammar and spelling mistakes, even if I try to be poilte and not point them out to bloggers that may not have the free time to check.

In any case, take your time. I agree with rangergirl, I think you get a pass on this one, and hey, not like I'll have applied any earlier than today if I do, so I'm not going to mind a wait. lol
