...I don't know how I didn't put that together. Sometimes me no think so well.

For the love of god man, don't risk your sanity by playing The Quiet Man. It's just not worth the risk. And you're not wrong about punk rock. I will fully agree with you on that. But really all artist's songs in any genre sound the same, (Cough AC/DC) it's just whether you prefer that sound or not. Punk rock is fairly repetitive though, but I would say the key difference would be whomever is on vocals usually has their own style. (Mind you not all of them) Country has a very similar vocal style which makes it somewhat hard to distinguish artists from each other, but that could just be because I don't listen to enough of it. Congratulations on making it through that episode, sorry I am long winded at times, but hey, we had fun!
Dearest Julian,
We have only just begun to scratch the surface of Samm's hot takes on everything. Stay tuned.
Sincerely,
Justin
Also this was quite possibly the funniest episode of the show ever. At least that I can remember. Although I did feel sorry for Patrick and plan to console him soon.
You pretty much nailed it. I find it very hard to push the narrative forward when I'm in control of the character. I used to watch a friend of mine play through Resident Evil games as a kid, and we had a ton of fun. I used to be kind of the guide for him and help him figure out puzzles and what not. But if you hand me the controller I won't do anything, because I'll be scared I'll cause something to trigger in thr game. Now, here's a weird thing, I can easily watch the older Resident Evil and Silent Hill games no problem and it's mainly because of the camera in them. Third person perspective does t bother me so much, but as soon as it's changed to first I can't even make it more than a few minutes at best. RE7 and PT are an absolute no go for me. Believe me, I tried to watch them once and my anxiety went nuts in no time. Horror movies I dont prefer but I can make it through them usually. Most of the scares I can see coming and I just kind of look away. Not exactly noble, but its what I do if I have to. I can also usually employ that tactic in a let's play too, so that helps. I HAVE to look at the screen if I'm controlling the character, so it forces that guard down. Hope that makes sense.
Stage Select: Let me just say up front, that I'm probably the last person we should ask this question... With that being said...
3. Okay we drop 100 kids on an island and have a battle royale style scenario. Kids like the Fortnite right? Well now they can have a real one. Then they can learn about how real life guns work and how to hide in the bathroom for hours on end. It worked in that one Japanese movie I saw... Oh wait...
2. Okay... We hire a sorcerer right? And then he like, opens up a realm to another dimension. Then all the bad stuff comes out of the portal, and the sorcerer holds a fighting tournament for some reason and we make the school kids do it. Maybe they'll learn martial arts this way or they'll learn how to trash talk using math. Because normally in a fight you have a fifty fifty chance of winning that fight, but if you're an expert martial artist, like myself, you only got a 25 percent chance at best of winning against me... (Cue this Scott Steiner promo)

1. Fuck man, I don't know, just make Chun Li a teacher. I'd go back to school to see that. Hell get the whole cast of Street Fighter involved in teaching. There's somebody there for everyone... Probably... Again I should not be asked questions like this.
My Episode Comment: Yea this stage select is really hard. I really got nothin, but hey I tried. Hopefully Julian and Patrick got something bettter than what I do. Anyways, THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE SHOUT OUT!!!! I appreciate that sooooo much! And you were definitely right to wait, I made sure we were going to be in it for a while before I even released an episode, but we're both havin a blast recording it so I think we'll be around for a while. Hopefully the review (For NWP) that I wrote just now actually goes though this time, because last time, it didn't. ITunes is a fickle mistress and confuses me in many ways.
Anyways, I laughed super hard at that Bethesda joke. THEY DO ALWAYS MAKE THE MOST BROKEN ASS GAMES, but for some reason I still love em. I think it's because I'm a big fan of modding games, and there is no crazier modding community than the Skyrim/Fallout games. I usually wait a good year before I play a game they release, just so the mods can catch up and get good. I've never been big on the way combat is in those games either, but my Skyrim feels like Dark Souls because of all the crazy combat mods I have going. Bethesda may kill that community themselves with their creation club nonsense, but I really hope they give up on that. It's really the only reason I love those games.
Oh! And I'm glad I'm actually not the only one who got scared by that Bioshock part. The girl I mentioned in that story was actually super impressed by Bioshock, and immediately demanded I buy and play the sequel... And that was pretty underwhelming so I showed her Mass Effect and she came back around.
I haven't watched a playthrough of the Resident Evil remake yet, maybe I'll do that after I get done playing Red Dead and Soul Calibur. I can't play horror games myself because I find it hard to push the narrative, but I love watching them for some reason. Binge watched Silent Hill 1,2, and 3 over the summer at some point for some reason. Looking forward to watching RE2 remake when that happens. (Although I can't handle horror games that are in first person. Something about those really messes with me)
Anyways, great episode as always! Hope this finds you well. Thanks once again for the shout out, it really helped! Keep it real dudes!
No you misunderstood. Sorry weird wording on my part. Konami was great, and when they were making games I adored them. I meant I avoided them for my stage select because I dont think we're going to get anything new out of them unless they change what theyre doing right now. We'll get some cash grab remasters but I'll be surprised if we see a new game from them in the near future. I hope Im wrong though.
Stage Select: As a coward, this is super hard for me since I do not play horror games, but here goes nothin...
3. The Salem Museum of Witchcraft in Fallout 4. Yea I probably should have known to just avoid this place, but I figured, "Hell everything else in this game is a little creepy, what could they possibly do here?" Turns out they can do some things. You're walking through and there's a lot of... not great stuff happening, because there's a deathclaw living there, and it's pretty nonplused about anything that gets close to it's nest. It's all dragging corpses around and it's just not a life I was about nor will I ever be about.
2. Creepy dentist man in Bioshock. So I once decided it would be a cool idea to show a girl I was dating how videogames could tell interesting stories, and I picked Bioshock having never played it. So... There's a part in the game where you go into this dentistry place, and this fog fills the room. Then once the fog clears, a corpse appears in the chair... Alright, that's odd, but whatever, might as well check around and get some stuff in here... And then at some point... You turn around and this dude... He's right in your face. He doesn't attack you... He just watches you... It was not okay, nor will it ever be okay to do that and so I shot him many times. I'm not sure if Bioshock's story really impressed that girl I was dating, but she definitely witnessed me being a huge coward in that moment, so... Yay?
1. Batman Arkham Knight. The part where you're all being the Batman, and you're grappling onto rooftops and looking all cool and suddenly the Joker appears in front of you and does his whole creepy laugh thing... Yea fuck this part. This was the EXACT moment in the game where I turned it off and never played it again. Youtube was good enough for me. Needless to say, if there is ever a situation where the world needs me to be Batman, we're all fucked because I'm not dealing with it. I don't ever forsee this happening, but just in case it ever does, don't say I didn't warn you.
My episode comment: Quick reply to a previous thing, I actually did buy a Blue Yeti mic. My sister and I both have them. I bought hers for christmas, because Amazon had a sale on them during a black friday thing and I just said, why not? They work great for pretty much everything I need. Still working on getting levels right and what not, but I'm gettin there. It's a whole trial and error thing.
I forgot about how great some of the old Bushido Blade levels were! It's been so long since I've played those games, glad Jesse mentioned that! Also as a person who went back and listened to all the old episodes, audio didn't bother me. Shit happens. Glad you put this out there though. Wish I would have gotten to hear the Suikoden talk, because it's one of my favorite RPG series of all time. I remember actively avoiding using Konami games because... Well it's Konami. Anyways, good episode all things considered, keep up the good work!
In the words of Joe Pesci, from the movie Goodfellas, "You worry too much! Everything is beautiful!"
Stage select:
3. Road Rash. So I have some fun memories of going to a friend's house and playing these games as a kid, and I think if there ever was a time to bring it back, maybe it's now? I'm thinking if this franchise were to come back, you throw realism right out of the window. It wouldn't be so much about the coarse, it would be more about the fight. I'm thiinking some sort of weird vehicular fighting game. It could maybe work? I don't know, but I think it would be an interesting game if done right. You'd have nostalgia people like me on board for it, and new people to the franchise would be curious as to what the hell this weird motorcycle game with chain fights in it is. I could see a lot of big dumb fun being had with this, and who doesn't like big dumb fun?
2. Bushido Blade. BRING IT BACK SQUARE/ENIX YOU COWARDS!!!! We have the technology! We can rebuild this! So many stupid fun times were had with these games in my youth, and I eagerly await the day when they take a chance and bring them back. You could have some cool character designs or actually, what I'm thinking for this, you just have a really cool, in depth character editor (Because in the original games it wasn't so much about the characters you picked, but the weapons that were more important.) and just apply the Bushido Blade formula. One hit kills, the whole deal. With the tech we have now, watching a guy hobble around on one leg to continue the fight would be amazing. They could go as simple or as complex as they wanted with the fighting. Personally, I think you go very simple, with maybe even a rock paper scissors kind of style. Your opponent strikes first, he presses a button, you can tell what he hit, (Maybe a color coding system?) now you have a choice: Do you hit the same button as them to block? Do you go for broke and hit the button that beats his? Maybe it's a slower attack! Maybe you're out of range! Shit! You took too long! Now your arm has a gaping wound and you can only hold your sword with one hand... You know what, if they don't bring Bushido Blade back, just somebody make a game like this. Please I beg of you.
1. Final Fight. If we can have a new Streets of Rage game announced, in the year of our lord 2018, we can have a new Final Fight game dammit! But I don't personally want a 2D beat-em-up. I want Final Fight to have the ressurection it deserves. It did not deserve to die after Streetwise! That game is an atrocity and it hurts my spirit that it's the last Final Fight game we got. So here's what I'm thinking: There's a game coming out next year, and maybe you've heard of it? It's called Devil May Cry 5. So here's a crazy thought... What if we give Final Fight to Itsuno? What if we make beating up Final Fight jobbers not so much a game about punching them until they're dead, but more about looking cool while doing it? Maybe new Final Fight isn't so much a game about getting to the end of a stage, but more of a game about getting to the end of a stage with an S ranking because you pulled off a bunch of sexy combos and nobody touched you. This sounds pretty cool to me! Now recently capcom has gotten the Final Fight peanut butter all up in Street Fighter's chocolate, and that's fine. Cody's the mayor of Metro City, and Abigail is... I don't know, pretending to be a truck? Whatever that's about? Anyways, why not just continue the Final Fight story from here? And what the hell, maybe we get Street Fighter's chocolate all up in Final Fight's peanut butter? Now I know what you're thinking, this is just because you want Chun Li to show up in your theorical Final Fight game... and you're not wrong... But think of all the possibilities! You can have Ken and Ryu fireballing jobbers and Blanka's there doing his thing, and then Guile shows up in a helicopter for some reason... I don't care go nuts! It'll be great! And then Mike Haggar comes out of retirement and spinning piledrives everybody and I will die happy. MAKE IT HAPPEN CAPCOM YOU COWARDS!!!!
My episode comment: First off, I want to say thank you Julian for the retweet on my little hobby podcast I've been working on with my sister. I really appreciate that a lot. We're still kind of learning what works and what doesn't, and our first episode was super rough audio wise because we were in the same room. Turns out audacity doesn't like that very much so levels are all over the place. It was a whole thing. Anyways, thanks a bunch for that man! Also I assure you I love writing stage selects and stuff for this show a whole bunch, and I'm glad you have a good time reading them. I have the big dumb smiles when I hear them back on here. (Hopefully I followed the rules of this one correctly. I think these games count, but I could have screwed that up)
So I personally enjoyed the fighting game talk on the show. I am in a weird place with SFV because I go from some character designs I'm not big on to some that I like a lot personally. Like... I'm a big fan of Falke and Ed. I think those two characters are pretty cool and they're kind of fun to play as. Menat is pretty cool. Rasheed is neat. I really like Sakura's update, I think it's past due. G is super weird and I'm not big on him either, but he does have a weird move where you can make him rant on about nothing and build V trigger?... It's bizarre. But yea, it's weird, I played it recently just to see what they added and again, for each thing I think is not good, there's something I find interesting. Should be noted, I'm very bad at it still, and I think the choice to slow down the fighting is weird and I can't quite adjust to it's style. I suppose it's better than when it was released... But probably should have just not released it like they did... It's complicated. They do have the option for me to buy a bunch of Chun Li costumes... and of course I did that... Oh! SFV Battle Costume Chun Li would have been in that photo I mentioned from the stage select. I love that design... Capcom knows how to extort money from me and it scares me a bit.
Anywho, fun episode! I look forward to the next one as always! Keep on cussin in the free world!
So I just listened to this tonight and I liked it. You guys did a good job with this. I love me some Yakuza as well and I have a few random things I want to add. When you guys were talking about the actors being real Japanese celebrities, I thought of the story of how I figured that out... And it's kind of funny. So I played through Zero a while back andI loved the cabaret club stuff. I was super addicted to the mini game. I spent more time than I needed to playing it, and I would absolutely play a mobile version of just that. ((Personally) For what ever reason, I googled one of the girls name's and I got a bunch of porn links... And so I :Clears throat: investigated them, and sure enough... The girls in the cabaret club are actual japanese adult film stars. So that's a thing that happened to me. I'm not sure if they're full blown porn stars or how that works in Japan to be honest, but google them sometime if you're brave, I swear this is a thing. You will immediately recognize the name and the faces to match, its weird.
I really need to play through the Kiwami games. I've played the original Yakuza when it was released, but I never got all the way through it for whatever reason. {I think I rented it actually} I remember Michael Madsen was the main bad guy's voice... Or maybe he was just one of the bad guys, I didn't get far enough in to see, but it was unmistakenly Michael Madsen, and it was weird he was doing the voice of an evil Japanese crime boss. The Kiwami games are definitely on my backlog for now, I'm currently saving them for a rainy day.
I'm currently Patricking Yakuza 6. I'm at the very last mission, and I can't bring myself to complete the game. I only visit the cabaret club to hang out with the pro wrestling girl. And the current NJPW guys who are in Yakuza 6 have some of the best cameos I've ever seen in a game. It is worth playing just for those alone, especially if you know who they are. It's friggen great and hearing that the old school Japanese wrestlers are in Kiwami 2 means I need to play that game now.
Also I think the chances of a Kiwami 3/4/5 may be a little slim, but I can definitely see them remastering them. I believe (And please correct me if I'm wrong. I am wrong a lot} they came out on the PS3, which is what Zero was originally made for? So I think for those games they will just translate them, give them the HD treatment and release them that way. Which I prersonally would be cool with. I think those would probably hold up. The PS2 games would have been a hard sell for a somewhat obscure franchise, and so remaking them makes sense.
Anyways, you guys did great, don't let anyone tell you differently.
