The Original Xbox: Exclusives That Time Forgot

Posted on 06/21/2013 at 11:57 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I skipped the Xbox myself. It had little that appealed to me, especially in light of the offerings of the PS2 and the Gamecube, and its controllers were ass. I was interested in Panzer Dragoon Orta, Shenmue, Gunvalkyrie, and Ninja Gaiden Black.

My Top 10 Games of E3

Final Fantasy XV and Bayonetta 2 were my favorite games from E3. However, I am indeed excited about X, and expect to be moreso when Nintendo shows more of it. X looks like it's taking a lot of cues from Xenogears and I'm lovin' it.

My Top 5 PS2 Stategy RPGs

NISA did a good job on SRPGs on PS2. My personal favorite is Sakura Wars: So Long My Love (made by the same people at Sega who made Valkyria Chronicles, and published by NISA in the US).

Retro Game of the Week: Super Punch-Out!!

I'm like jgusw. The Punch-Out!! games on the NES and Wii were among my favorites on their respective consoles, but I didn't really care much for Super Punch-Out.

My Sony Confession

I'm kind of like you. I've been a PlayStation fan from the day I bought Final FantasyVII. That didn't stop me from buying a Gamecube the next generation, but I loved my PS1 and PS2.

The PS3, sadly, had too lackluster of a launch to justify its price, and in 2007, the 360 was a better value proposition for me, so I got one of those. But I mostly got it for stuff like Virtua Fighter 5 and Tales of Vesperia. I did try the online Halo, Gears, and Call of Duty 4 communities, but those games weren't and will never be my cup of tea. Also, the good stuff I liked dried up pretty quickly on 360 and started migrating over to PS3. When I saw Valkyria Chronicles, I wanted a PS3. The E74 error was the last straw for me and the Xbox line.

I got a PS3 with Valkyria Chronicles to go with it, and I've loved it. It's been a great system. And with Microsoft making the decision easy with the Xbox One's bullshit, I'll be going in PS4 all the way. I will still be playing my Wii U as well, of course. :)

Cary's Favorite E3 News Stories (And a Rant)

I'm excited about the PS4. My wife pre-ordered me one with the intention of having it fully paid off when it releases. My favorite games of the show were FFXV and KH3.

I'm going to skip the Xbox One altogether. To put it bluntly, I feel like Microsoft has turned Kinect and Xbox Live into a surveillance system, and I don't like the other controls it has on the way I play my games. I get more than enough supervision at work, thanks. And for the record, I feel like the 360 has gotten worse and worse with every revision of the user interface. The only time I use mine anymore is when I have a hankering to play Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, or Blue Dragon.

Xbox One is the Future

Absolutely. It may be very unlikely, but a hostile enough market reception to Xbox One's policies may scare Microsoft and Sony away from trying them in the future. For my part, I hope the PS4 wins the same one-sided victory against Microsoft that the PS2 did.

Xbox One is the Future

My big objection to the Xbox One is Microsoft's intrusiveness. They've turned Xbox Live and Kinect into a surveillance system. I get enough supervision at work. If Microsoft wants to supervise my gaming, I don't need them. The only Xbox One I would consider buying is a jailbroken Xbox One.

Xbox One: The Embodiment of the American Dream

This is all spot-on. The Xbox One's design isn't about customer service, it's all about Microsoft. If a game system thinks I need to be supervised when I'm playing games I bought, I don't need it. If I wanted a supervisor looking over my shoulder, I'd just stay at my job 24/7. And my boss doesn't ride my ass nearly as much as Microsoft does.

The Conference War

My wife preordered a PS4 for me after Sony's conference. I am excited about the PS4. The Xbox One, not so much. My favorite games of the show were FFXV, KH3, Tales of Xillia, Sony's The Order: 1886, and Supergiant Games' Transistor.
