Xbox One's 24 Hour Check-In DRM caught on video during Killer Instinct Tourney

I could be more of a new standard in DRM that is a step up from the original Xbox 360 but not as draconian like the original Xbox One's features. I'd prefer it be a glitch though. Glitches can be fixed. So far no trust has been broken yet between Microsoft and gamers.

I've been asking myself this during the middle portion of the last generation of gaming. I was getting tired of all the hoops I had to jump thur just to play a PS3/XBox 360 title. all the reasom why I might just go retro this generation if more events like this keep popping up.

Given that other gaming websites have yet to run this story may indicate that there is more than what we are seeing with the video. Infact Gamesutra tweeted that they had to pull "a" Xbox One DRM story because it couldn't be independantly verified. Whether that story was this story remains to be seen.

Sounds to me that this could be a hardware issue but not exactly the original DRM protocols talked about. It could be nothing more than a step up DRM restiction from the original Xbox 360 features. the explaination I've been told sounds like that could be the case. But if that is such then the new Xbox One feature where it is REQUIRED for you to be signed into your gamertag for the game to play is rather lame. I can have a guest play on my Xbox 360 without my gamertag logged in, or connected to the internet, and that guest still has access to all my XBLA titles I own.

Either way we'll just have to wait and see.

There hasn't been much else said about the event in question. Most are saying that this was done on purose to make it look like it's a 24 hr DRM check. One person spoke to me saying something like this would happen if the kinect 2 was not conntected as well as the actually gamertag associated with the ownership of the digitial title wasn't signed in to the system. That logically makes sense and I'd have to take his word for it given I don't know much about the Xbox One.

Eiother way I don't really plan on getting a system either until a Halo game comes out. The link is also fixes so thanks for the heads up!

I'm kind of okay to when it comes to digital games. I've found myself buying more and more of them now given I have the GB in my systems to hold them and you can get some at a really good discount. But I still won't want to have the conveiance of digital games if it means I'd have to go thru what just happened during that KI tournament.

Are you telling me you have no trust in Microsoft? I mean just because they originally created the system to be less than user friendly and they took part in the NSA PRISM program doesn't mean you can't trust Microsoft to be true to their word.

...wait....

Right now we don't know how exactly this happened. Hopefully it was just a glitch or something wasn't done write with the game during gamertag sign in. Hopefully we'll know more on how this exactly took place. You'd think if this DRM was the case we'd have heard more about it. Espiecally with a popular game like Killer Instinct.

Make sure to play "Spartan Ops" after you beat halo 4, it continues the story where the end of Halo 4 ends off. It might not be much but it is an interesting concept in progressing the story in game form.

I'm thinking Halo has got to the point where it's just getting to big for it to be covered in games and written media. We might need to have a movie eventually that adds more to the series. We saw it with Forward unto Dawn. But they should try to scale things back so we don't get too confused. We got books that take place way in the past and ones that fill in the gaps between the games. There is such a thing as oversaturation.

But then again. It would be horrible if we had to go thru what this guy went thru when it came to D&D. in and out of the movie...
