I never found the first few levels of any DKC too hard, but then I never really got that far either.

Damn, I forgot about Revolution X. Where you would kill people with Aerosmith CDs, right? I played that in arcades a ton.
I can agree with that. I definitely preferred the X series when I would rent. I actually really liked Mega Man Soccer, though I'm not sure Wikipedia would consider that a "notable release." In fairness, I think I only rented that once.
I don't remember near as much about Yoshi's Island as I do about SMW, but both were great games.
Favorite Tekken character? Hmmm ... Xiayou? Or if we're only counting the original, then Nina?
I'm not familiar with Rolling Thunder.
I think that trilogy was pretty special, though I definitely remember 3 the least.
I don't see how slamming DKC would be beneficial for Nintendo though. Apparently, Miyamoto was annoyed they didn't want to sell SMW2 until he changed the art style to be more like DKC and he instead made it even more cartoony and they accepted the more cartoony art style.
I think what Casey said about him trying to drive them to do better might make sense but ... I just have no idea. Whatever the case, we ended up with two great games.
Wait, MK3 was at Disneyland? Seems like a branding issue. lol
It's funny to look back on this stuff with 20/20 hindsight and realize how wrong we all were about so many things.
The thing is, the comment supposedly showed up in an interview with a magazine called Electronic Gaming, which was not EGM ... according to some thread I found online. It also appears in a book about video games history, again according to the thread: http://www.dkvine.com/interactive/forums/index.php?showtopic=12331
I have no idea, since the only easily searchable thing about this is Miyamoto's denial in IGN, but it must have surfaced somehow? I dunno.
I think I rented DKC a bit more often than 2, but I do remember preferring 2 overall.
I used to collect so many CDs from junior high and high school, but they became few and far between in college.
I still get annoyed when car rentals have no CD slot.
So much about the Dreamcast was so far ahead of its time. It really is just a shame.
How large are the figures? I've never really been into these myself, but I guess I could stand to decorate ... some day.
What are the 80s arcade games, besides Pac Man? I think most everything I remember of arcades was released in the 90s.
I wouldn't rank SMK or any of its sequels quite that high on my personal list, but I can understand why you would.
I'm guessing Sonya and ... idk. I usually just guess female fighters for your favorites, and I forget who those are in MK, since even she was a last-minute add for more diversity in the first one. I saw the movie on Netflix recently and thought it wasn't necessarily a good movie, but it was GREAT fan service and at least fun to watch.
Sonic 2 is probably my favorite Sonic game. I disagree with the inclusion of Tails being its only redeeming factor, especially since I never play as him. lol
Yeah, Star Fox was mindblowing on SNES, and then Star Fox 64 is something that made me think, "we will never surpass these graphics." Funny how things change.
I'm somewhat the opposite on MMX and MMX2. I rented both often enough, but I definitely remember a lot more about 2.
Yeah, Earthworm Jim was just frustrating for little me.
Turns out, Earthbound actually released in the U.S. in '95. I didn't check the release closely enough on Wikipedia, which is already a bad source, so take these blogs with a grain of salt.
I'd say Jade would be your favorite KI character ... once again, only female one I can think of. She has a green outfit too, which I remember being a color you like? I think?
Apparently, the Miyamoto quote is that people will put up with mediocre gameplay if something looks pretty. A GameFAQs commenter said he was working on Yoshi's Island at the time and felt pressured to make it look similar to DKC? That doesn't make much sense to me. Again, grain of salt: http://www.ign.com/articles/2010/06/17/e3-2010-shigeru-miyamoto-likes-donkey-kong-country-after-all?page=3
So I guess he liked the game fine and some rumor got started cause of mistranslating. IDK. I kind of doubted it, but I'd heard it so often ... I'll update this blog.
I asked for a Jim Beam and Dr. Pepper at an open bar in Ohio once. She thought I must be a little kid not to ask for a jack and coke. I was 21 at the time and had left my ID ...
Mac and cheese and broccoli sounds nice.
Congrats to the couple!
