PAX West 2019 and Birthday Reviews!

Posted on 09/13/2019 at 09:45 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I thought of you not only when I was playing River City Girls, but also when I was walking around the Square-Enix booth FF7 area.  Like the Cloud-cycle you can sit on and the replica of the Mako reactor.  As I was walking around that part, I almost expected Aeris to walk around the corner and try to sell me a flower.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I do like vegetables.  Meat just tastes too good for me to be a vegetarian.  In Seattle we actually ate at the same burger place twice.  The first day of PAX, after playing BurgerTime Party and sitting on burger chairs, we were hungry for burgers so we ate at this great burger place called 206 Burger Company, or something like that.  Then the last day of the show, we ate there again for lunch.  The first time we ate there, I just had a regular bacon cheeseburger.  The second time I got a salmon burger.

Thanks!  You know those little My Arcade mini cabinets?  I have one of BurgerTime.  :)

It could possibly be Crazy Otto, the Ms. Pac-Man prototype.

Yeah I have that Pac-Man cabinet mint tin.  I also have mint tins shaped like Ms. Pac-Man and Space Invaders cabinets.

My 1980s Gaming: 1981

I was a little kid at the time, so I don't remember exactly which year I played those classic games.  They all kind of run together for me.  I remember more WHAT I played, not WHEN.

PS: I liked the Jill Valentine cosplayer more than the Morrigan one at PAX. :)

One of the Greatest - Half-Life 2

Only reason why I would want to play Half-Life is its connections with the Portal story.

I know I already told you my story of how I first played Pac-Man.  Definitely a very impactful game for me.

By the way, my PAX articles are up at GamerDad.com.

Nintendo adding SNES games to their online service is very dangerous for me. :)

Yup.  I'm going to try and review it, or see if there is a physical copy available to buy.

So FF8 was significant for me, too, for the opposite reason.   It was the first FF game released in the US that I didn't have an interest in.  I appreciated the differences in FF7, but it was the differences I didn't like that they decided to focus on in FF8.  I played a demo of FF8 on Brave Fencer Musashi (which was a great game and I wish Square would revisit that one again).  After playing the FF8 demo, I decided I wasn't going to get it.  Just as well, too, since I was a poor college student at the time.  But my disinterest changed when FF9 came out.  Boy I loved that game!  That's what FF7 and 8 should've been for me.

On an unrelated topic, I played River City Girls at PAX and thought of you.
